Miss Koi Reviews The Season 5 Premier....or it is Premiere? Haha lol;) · 5:38pm Apr 4th, 2015

Season 5 is finally here folks!:yay: Is it just me or did this hiatus go by pretty quickly? I dunno know, maybe it's just me. After all, I had Bride of Discord to keep me busy along with creating my own Fanfiction & Fimfiction account and writing stories of my own. Plus, I had other shows and well life to keep me busy too.
Anyway, in honor of the new season, I decided to do reviews for each episode of the season:twilightsmile: Fun right?:pinkiehappy:

My first initial reaction to this episode was....Huh. Interesting.
These two episodes was certainly different than most action packed season openers. Usually, I'm one of the those for the action packed season openers but I enjoyed this one for two reasons. One, it's tone. Two, it's pacing. The opening episodes had a very well-established pacing and it didn't feel rushed. Which is usually the biggest critique of these premier episodes. If I were to describe the tone, I would have to say it's very humble and down to earth. Sure the whole cutiemark-less conformity society had a very creepy and bone-chilling vibe to it throughout the entire episode, but the way the characters went through the journey and solved the problem was almost slice of life. The Mane 6 didn't use magic to solve their problems, they literally used their friendship and the lessons about friendship to inspire friendship in others. Which strongly brings out the friendship theme of the show overall.

I have a feeling that the episode's tone sets the overall tone for the season. Our heroes will solve their problems by using friendship, not magic or attacks, which is pretty cool. Especially since we're going to have this backdrop of our ponies travel all over Equestria, which brings a cool adventure element to our slice of life approach to problem-solving. I look forward to how the future episodes fit into this overall tone and how each character inspires friendship in others.

I think my favorite part of this episode was when the Mane 6 were at the café and they were debating on how to deal with the cutiemark-less town. The waitress, Sugar Bell, asks them how they can be friends when one minute they're arguing but then minutes later they're having fun with each other. Our heroes point out that yes they argue and have different opinions, but they do it all the time and they're use to it. In a way, they point out how arguing and listening to each other makes their friendship and bond stronger and these debates help solve problems. It reminded me of how families do argue and debate with each other a lot due to difference in opinions and personalities, but in the end, families love each other. And fighting can lead to better understandings and loving yet stronger bonds. In a way, it can work with friendship too. Especially with the Mane 6 bond.

Alright, let's talk about the villain aka the biggest part of these season openers. I do not like Starlight Glimmer's design because her color scheme is too much like Aria Dazzling's. Even though their manes are different, still...it's too similar for my liking. I also don't find her name interesting because it sounds too much like Twilight Sparkle. But other than that, she was an interesting character. Throughout the episode, I was so curious of her back story and why she is the way she is. Surprisingly, the episode didn't reveal her back story. Usually, the reveal the back story of the villain like they did with Tirek in the Season 4 finale. Because they didn't reveal her back story, it makes me wonder if they'll reveal in the season finale or throughout the season. It makes me wonder if she'll be a recurring villain or just appear in the season finale. Speaking of her back story, when Double Diamond found his skis...and mentioned that this was the place he meet Starlight....my shipping senses were tingling. :applejackconfused::heart: Sooooo, that might be part of the reason why I want to know her backstory....possible friendship or romance with Mr.Double Diamond? Haha lol:derpytongue2:

But yeah, Double Diamond was my second favorite character due to shipping reasons and the fact that he skis (yay Skiiers!). But my favorite character of this episode was Party Favor!:raritystarry: OMG he was so cute in this episode:rainbowkiss: He has a poofy mane like Pinkie Pie and he sacrificed himself into the conformity room for his friends, what more could you want out of a character?!

Another really interesting thing about this episode was Fluttershy. Throughout the episode, she kept commenting how she loved all the nice ponies in town, their architecture and how the other Mane 6 should respect their way of life. At first, I couldn't understand why Fluttershy was so interested in this town and their way of life. I know that she's the understanding one, but she seemed so happy in this creepy town. However, as the episode progressed, I realized that she likes the town because every pony is so calm and polite and they don't argue. And she's the kind of pony that can truly appreciate those qualities. However because of this, it made Fluttershy look naïve and blind. We know that she isn't because of the episode Keep Calm and Flutter on. How can Fluttershy not tell when somepony is being faked nice? But I think that the reason why she couldn't tell was because every pony was so calm and serene around her and their behavior was very constant, so she just assumed that they were like that naturally. But luckily, the later part of the two-part episode redeems Fluttershy by making her the key pony that saves every pony when they need her the most. Yay Fluttershy! It's a good move by the writers to use Fluttershy as the rescuer because of her timid nature, she can help build a sense of suspense for the viewers along with building an audience concern for her well-being.

And the episode earns....7.5 hearts out of 10! Congrats to you episodes!:coolphoto:

You know what would be funny? If we had Discord visit this town before the Mane 6 did. :rainbowlaugh:Think about it. He would drive the conformed ponies, especially Starlight, insane. He would change up the buildings, make wild magical creature run around and distort the physics to no end, OMG Discord would just have a ball with them!:rainbowlaugh:

What did you guys think of the season opener? Let me know what you guys think and let's start a discussion!

Haha lol, is that a story request I hear? Sure, I can do a story request for ya:twilightsmile: It might take me awhile, but I can do it if you want me to.

My Easter is tomorrow, but thank you for the Easter wishes:twilightsmile: Have a happy and joyous Easter too! Good luck with finding that golden egg laying Easter Bunny, I'll be searching for the Easter Beagle so I know how you feel:raritywink:

You provide a good point about the tone of the premiere being down-to-earth and that it matches the theme of "friendship is magic". However, though the girls will be traveling to new lands, I worry the future episodes won't be exciting enough to catch my interest. I guess we'll see when each episode comes out.
