The Head To Paper Process

Ready, Set, WRITE!
I've decided that it's time to start writing my first ever fanfiction! As little time as I have to write said story I have a great idea and I need to write it before I lose interest and/or forget major plot points. It's nothing TOO original, your usual "pony appears on earth" story but I hope that the few quirks I have in store will keep it from the generic isle. I'm not sure about the genre yet. I know there are going to be a few depressing moments but it's not going to be completely sad. It's going to get silly from time to time but it's not quite a full comedy. There's going to be a bit of travel but not enough to warrant an adventure tag and a slice-of-life tag doesn't quite seem to fit the bill either (I don't entirely understand the nature of a slice-of life story so if someone could explain it to me it would be a big help). I guess I'll figure it out when I have a better idea of the entire plot. I plan to get the first chapter or two out of the way before Season 5 airs, I would hate for my ideas to be ruined by a new cannon.
On another note I did write a version of Luna's banishment for my English class. I was told to tell a love story and tried to rewrite the story as a tale of sisterly love, it's kinda short (I had an hour or so to write it) but if you want I can edit it and post it for you all to read. Perhaps it can give an idea of what to expect from my story in progress!
