Story Writing · 9:32am Mar 12th, 2015
When I began to write stories, I was always the adventurous type and ponies were no exception. If you look at my stories now, all of them are pretty much adventure except for my most recent one, "The Magician's Solace". It is my only slice of life story currently, but I've come to realize that slice of life stories can be as fun, if not more fun than writing adventure stories.
The contest I entered recently really challenged my style of writing, and I'm happy with what I produced. If I were to compare "The Magician's Solace" to "The Elements of Chaos", it's obvious which one will come out on top. I spent a lot of time on "The Elements of Chaos", but it has almost every over-used cliché imaginable that everyone absolutely DESPISES on this site. Does that mean I won't finish it? Not at all. It's my very first story I started with on here, but I don't think I'll be getting around to it any time soon. My point is that with each new idea I had and wrote, with each story on here I've read either by the greats or every other author, my strength as a writer grew.
My stories, I like to look back on them and make fun of them, because they are merely stepping stones to further greatness. By reading comments, by reading through truly wonderful and absolutely disgusting fics, I've learned what is liked, what is not liked, and what is expected from both the reader and the author. I've learned about writing styles, how to do dialogue, the "show, don't tell" concept and so on and so forth.
Yes, I am far from being a great author, let alone even a good one, but it has been one heck of a journey. As long as I have inspiration and motivation, I shall continue to write. Plus, the support I get from you guys and gals is a nice bonus. It makes my day knowing that someone enjoyed something I wrote.
Anyway, I won't keep you around longer then I have to. I just want to say thank you for everything. Thank you for being there and I hope to see all of you in the comments of my next story.
