Writing can be a challenge...
When you sit down and try to come up with ideas, there's a process involved; said process usually being, "No, no, uh-uh, nope, certainly not, absolutely not, you gotta be kidding, anon, anon, ad infinitum..."
Then there's the Derpy lightning times...CRACK! BOOM!
I tend toward visual. Sophiecabra did it with "Two Mares Walk Into a Bar..." The picture accompanying the story was the inspiration for it. Celestia in her crown and raiment, acting like the typical barfly, cradling a cider mug as she lectures Twilight, who has that "Can I be anyplace but here?" look on her face.
"On Writing", same thing.
"Relaxing on a Saturday Night", ditto.
And now I wish I had saved the one I saw this morning, because it caused an entire outline...
Rarity is alone in a field. Sad and crying. Spike walks up to her, hands her a flower. She smiles, hugs him warmly.
Take that simple, warm, loving moment...and stretch it over eighty years or so...
And this one will tear your heart from your chest, and rip it to shreds in front of you...

Honestly i don't really like Sparity Fics, I mean it feels like spike only likes rarity because she is the prettiest, IE the shiniest gem in the pile, and any other reasons he gives for liking her fall flat and just sound like excuses. If i had to pick my favorite ship for Spike, it would probably be a background pony, like Dinky or even CarrotTop. Simply because it allows spike to develop his character past his base needs and desires.

Keep Spike a baby dragon with crushes, and then it's cute...
Make it a love story over seventy or eighty years, and it changes unbelievably...epically, you might say...

2865078 Well good luck to you friend, i've read quite a few of those kinds of sparity fics, and so far none of them have wowed me. They all end up feeling very cliche and drawn out, with very predictable endings.
Still working on Spike/Rarity... not quite there yet. Almost...
