Writeoff, right on? · 12:24pm Mar 5th, 2015
If you've read The Sunset Room, you will notice that it was originally written for the Writeoff Association's December short story competition. This draft took me three days to produce, and clocked in at approximately 3 300 words.
Now, how many of you, followers, write an average of 1000 words a day?
One of you? Two?
Okay, I don't have many followers, so it's not exactly a good pool to draw on for examples, but the point stands: That Writeoff competition forced me to plant my arse on a chair and get writing.
And you know what? I had fun.
That's right. Fun. I knew I was going to be judged, but I also knew that I was anonymous, that I would be receiving feedback from my senpais some of the best writers this fandom has to offer, that there was a chance that I would exceed my own expectations and write something to be proud of. The contest freed me up to write at my best and have fun doing it.
But why am I telling you this?
Well, this Sunday, the Writeoff Association is hosting a minific competition. You have one day to write a story between 400 and 750 words, and I recommend to all of you, if you have any interest in writing whatsoever, to sit down for an hour or two and pump out an entry.
It might not be the best story you ever write. It might not even be good. But it will get you writing, get you having fun, get you some feedback from the fandom's best, and get you participating in a community that is full of wit, humour and intelligence.
So come along. See what there is to see. The Writeoff Association is waiting for you.
