    Update for June 2019

I've been mentoring a grad student on "de-scoping". It's time for me to do that here too:

    Update for June 2018

The good news is, I have a permanent job now (and it's one that I love). The less-good news is that life prior to this was not conducive to hobbies.

    My FIM-related queue is:
    - Finish marking up iisaw's fic and send the last section to him.
    - Do a detailed analysis of Bad Horse's code and dataset and send the conclusions to him.
    - Get my incomplete short-ponyfics in order.

    Update for August 2015

I'm still alive, and still enjoying reading about ponies; that's the good news.

The less-good news is that I haven't made significant progress on writing and I don't expect to soon. This is primarily due to a combination of job-search fatigue and burnout.

(This has also been affecting my pre-reading time; apologies to iisaw for the delay.)

    Update for February 2015

    Writing-related:
    - Organized my notes for "LAN Party of the Night" into a coherent outline. This still needs work before anything gets written.
    - Continued making notes for "Time Loop Logic". I have a backlog of entries to add to that, and procrastination continues.

    Update for November 2014

    Writing-related:
    - Finished pre-reading Luna Cypher. Iisaw has indicated that he won't be making a second editing pass, so this task is now done. And the story was nifty .

Update for February 2015 · 3:46am Mar 2nd, 2015

Writing-related:
- Organized my notes for "LAN Party of the Night" into a coherent outline. This still needs work before anything gets written.
- Continued making notes for "Time Loop Logic". I have a backlog of entries to add to that, and procrastination continues.
- Started pen-and-ink notes for "Gone Horribly Right". This is going to need decent character hooks before it can get written (for now, it's just a plot outline, which won't get the reader emotionally invested).

On a broader note, I've concluded that I'm not likely to get any writing done on the computer. Previous writing happened because I had reliable periods of downtime and was between video games. Now, when I'm at the computer, I have no shortage of things to do that aren't writing.

Doing editing/proofreading on public transit, by contrast, has worked (as long as I don't have a knitting project keeping me busy). I'm going to see if I can adapt that to writing, vs just editing, in hopes of getting publishable drafts of any of the half-dozen or so outlines in the queue. We'll see how this goes.

Publishing-related:
- Got a DA account. In principle, this lets me contact artists for permission to use cover art. In practice, this has been put on the same backburner as the "asking for permission to reprint fics" part. The "Petriculture" cycle, "It Takes a Village", and "Back on Her Hooves" are near the top of the "to ask" list once this gets un-backburnered. I also have to ask about the cover art for "Whom the Princesses Would Destroy", as I only have text permission for that. The higher-profile stories ("Eternal", "Hard Reset", and so forth) come after I have a history to provide evidence of my good intentions.

Life-related:
- Started burning out at the end of November. Still partly burned out. This will be resolved in due time; mostly it's due to difficulty staying motivated when between jobs. While it's primarily impacting the job search itself (and resume-building activities), hobbies like writing tend to be another casualty as well. I'm still making progress on the more important tasks, and I hope to make progress on writing and editing as well. Stay tuned.

Looking forward to whatever you might come up with!

"Time Loop Logic" is the only viewable story at the moment. Its content is intended for inclusion in "MLP Time Loops", so it's unlikely to be submitted as a story in its own right (as publishing the content twice breaks the site's use policy if I understand correctly).

The stand-alone fics that are closest to being publishable are "CeleMac Vignettes" and "LAN Party of the Night". The first has been stalled for more than a year, and the second hasn't made the transition from "outline and parts of scenes" to "coherent draft" yet. So, don't hold your breath. :twilightsheepish:

I'm flattered that you're interested in them!
