Happy International Mother Language Day! · 3:09pm Feb 21st, 2015
Some of you might not know about this, but today, 21 February, is International Mother Language Day, which as the name suggests, promotes linguistic diversity worldwide.
Why today?
On the same day in 1952, students in what is now Bangladesh rallied for Pakistan's official recognition of the Bengali language. However, they were shot and killed by law enforcement for their demonstration.
So in observance, I had my high school's newspaper translate a poem into as many languages as we could find. We got eleven, if I recall. --Twelve if you count the original English.
You can access them here. If you or someone you know speaks a language other than what is listed there, and is willing to provide a translation, do me a favor and provide one. --The more the merrier!
Bonan nokton, kaj bonŝancon. (Good night, and good luck.)
