living in a constant grating agony
(so why try so why try I just always feel so small)
    such a happy family
(it's all lies it's all lies every single thing is wrong)

TOP 5: Personal Favorite Villains (FINAL) · 12:37am Feb 14th, 2015

#1: Oogie Boogie (Origin: The Nightmare Before Christmas by Tim Burton and Disney; 1st Appearance: The Nightmare Before Christmas)

Well, well, well...What have we here~?

Every time, every time I hear that intro to his signature song when I watch The Nightmare Before Christmas...I can't help but grin and sing along. Oogie is basically the Boogieman, the monster we feared as kids, the one whom we had to check under our beds and in our closets and while his screen-time in the film wasn't that long, how he acted and what he did was enough to show that we SHOULD still be afraid. Unlike the other denizens of Halloween Town who only scare to celebrate their town's namesake and are quite friendly, Oogie gets to scare people 24/7 every year and he relishes in it...RELISHES in the fear he makes. He is sadistic, twisted, mean...and has an amazing singing voice. Also to note is his apparent love for gambling thanks to the casino-theme shown in his lair with the dice rolling he does and the themed death traps (kinda like one of those old Batman baddies from the comics). This gambling habit however doesn't make him a fair sport as he will cheat to get what he wants. While I remember a mention of him on a Top 10 video on other Disney antagonists, he is also mentioned as a Honorable Mention due to the lack of motive...Yeah, we're talking about the Boogieman here, does he REALLY need a motive for what he does? And not to mention his true appearance as a mass of creepy-crawlies under the burlap sack he wears as his skin...And also the snake for a tongue...*shudders* Yes, he didn't last long in his premiere but the character has become well-known even to be featured as the lead antagonists of two Nightmare-based video games (one being a prequel and the other a sequel). So when it comes to Oogie, you better play your cards right...unless he cheats of course.
