TOC - I was wrong. · 8:14am Feb 10th, 2015
Until now in the Tournament of Canterlot I'd claimed that:
Oxfam’s 2014 annual report claims that they allocated about 1.37 million dollars (US) and delivered clean water and sanitation to an estimated 847,000 people; as well as provided more than 330,000 vulnerable people affected by the crisis with access to clean water, sanitation, food, livelihood support, and protection. This means that for every $100 spent, they provided water and sanitation for around 62 people and full support for about 24.
I live in Australia and these numbers were taken from the Oxfam Australia 2013-2014 annual report; after I accounted for the average exchange rate between US and Australian $ for that financial year. What I failed to understand was that the effects had were for the combined impact of the global confederation of Oxfam affiliates, and 1.5 was only Oxfam Australia's contribution.
To quote the Oxfam associate I've been talking to:
To give a clearer overall sense of the total value of this global program, Oxfam’s overall program budget for the Syria and regional response for 2014/15 is US$51.8m. As of the end of 2014, we have assisted over 1.58 million people in Syria, Jordan and Lebanon.
Which roughly translates to $32.78 US.
This is the first time I've organized something like this before; I'm sorry.
I'm in the process of checking over the other aspects of the tournament I may have messed up at first. Within the next week or so I hope to release a new wave of stories; and after that do some more advertising for the TOC.
(If you haven't seen my Tournament of Canterlot yet though, seriously, check it out.)
