Bad Week For Writing, Delay On Next Chapter · 12:47am Feb 1st, 2015
This has been an exceptionally awful week for me in terms of my ability to write. I have been inundated with work, both homework and catching up on missed lessons due to my hospital appointments taking place at the same time as half my lessons on both occasions, and as a result my free time has been but a shadow of its former self.
As if I didn't already have enough shit to deal with, my computer died on Thursday and has been in the computer shop since, hopefully to be fixed since I really don't want to lose what I have on there.
No chapters lost this time, since I have been writing them all digitally since the last computer-related writepocalypse, but the loss of my best means of accessing FimFic has hurt my ability to continue work somewhat.
I don't know if any of you have ever tried writing stories on FimFic with an iPhone, but for those who haven't had the pleasure, let me just say that it is hell, albeit not quite so deep a layer as writing on, say, a BlackBerry.
It's frustrating and time-consuming and damn near impossible to proofread, and since a third of the text box appears off the side of the screen, I often get confused as to what I've already written and end up repeating myself.
For whatever reason, the text boxes for blog posts are fine, but where I need it the most, I can't even see a third of the text box.
This might take some time to sort out. I'm doing my best to continue, but I doubt I will be able to upload anything edited or proof-checked until my PC's back from android hell or wherever it goes to have repairs made.
On the upside, I've finally planned out the revised plot all the way to the end, and I am pretty confident that it'll be a fun experience for all of us, even if it might take me another year to complete. (30 main chapters, 10 interludes, 9 codex entries and 3 epilogues when it's done.) I have an estimated 12x more words to write than I have done, including the start of Chapter Four.
It might seem like I'm biting off more than I can chew, but in all honesty once the story starts going properly, those chapters will fly by. What's toughest is starting the story out and getting it onto its little digital hooves: once you can walk, it's pretty easy to canter and then gallop; it's just getting those legs to work in the first place that's the tough part.
I suppose it never rains, but it pours.
Best of luck getting your computer fixed.
