As promised, the post-game show... · 8:43pm Jan 27th, 2015
Apparently I fail at this whole FimFic thing. I guess I should have created new chapters and published the new content in there instead so it showed up as unread. My apologies. In any case, the new content is there.
Before I say anything else, I have to give a big shout-out to Orlunu here for reading through 10s of thousands of words to make this rewrite possible.
With that said, I'm only giving you one chance here. This post contains MASSIVE spoilers for the rewritten Pinkamena's Tribulation. If you want to read the rewrite without spoilers, leave this page now. As mentioned, Chapters 0-2 are being republished, as those are where the bulk of the changes live. The first two chapters have changed entirely, and the third is all-new up until the halfway point. After the dream sequence begins in Chapter 2, the story progresses essentially the same as it had before, with detail changes to match the new continuity or quality enhancements, but not really with new content.
Okay, here's the damage:
As mentioned previously, this fic no longer takes place in the Cupcakes Continuum. That is both the source and the biggest change itself--nothing from Cupcakes can be considered canonical with this fic at all, from this point forward. Additionally, all of the details this story had to explain away/work with the Cupcakes background: the break-in at the hospital, Pinkie's consumption of meat, etc. never happened. Instead, the first few chapters introduce the idea of Pinkie having a sleep disorder leading to somnambulism (sleepwalking/other activities). In this case, Pinkie is troubled by Dash's disappearance (in the new continuity, Dash has not only been hiding, but actually went back to her mom's house in Cloudsdale due to the events at the party), and after spending days looking for her, forgets to take the medication she uses to control her sleep disorder.
She does still end up in the hot air balloon, and is covered in blood, but there are no clear clues as to where the blood comes from; Pinkie assumes the worst due to prior incidents in which she injured family members, etc while sleeping. However, there are also indications that she may be injured. Each of the first two chapters opens with a small look back at Pinkie's past to help with this part. She wakes up in the balloon outside Dash's mom's house, and writes her a letter before fleeing. The contents of the letter aren't yet fully revealed in the new chapters, only that Pinkie believes herself to be in trouble/have done something terrible, and has to flee.
Twilight never kidnaps Dash in the new continuity either. Instead, Twilight and Fluttershy find Dash in Cloudsdale and attempt to present her with evidence of what Twilight considers to be Pinkie's crimes (amongst other things, a bloodied knife was found). Dash is unconvinced, but flies home to read the latest letter from Pinkie. Twilight follows and, after a scuffle, Dash escapes.
Luna's arrival and actions in Ponyville and Pinkie's dream stay mostly the same, except for the basement/magic accident, which never happens. Lyra is fleshed out a little better, tweaked to give more hints at what is to come.
Changes after chapter 3 are generally just touch-ups either for quality or to fit slightly better. The dream sequence in Chapter 7 has been altered to be less gory, and the "weird" part with the mirror expanded.
I think that about covers it. Thanks for hanging in there. You all make it worth it.
