Well, I've been trying to update. I've got a few chapters partially ready, but they aren't ready for submission....yet...
However, on Friday a friend took me to a church on campus where they were showing a double feature....and, well, an idea was inspired because of it.
What if a rare dragon came to Equestria and she bred with an Equestrian Dragon....and then ONE egg (of six) was stolen by ponies?
Well, you'd get a recipe for a reunion between Spike.....and his mother.
It would take healing magic and a dragon's "birthing flame" (a flame that young hatchlings are exposed to in order to help break through the eggshell) to reverse the stunted growth Spike had because of Twilight's magic forcing him to hatch early...and there would be a few changes in his appearance.
He would keep the fins on each side of his head and the spines on the top of his head, but would mostly walk on all fours and have wings. His head would be more...blunted-like Big Macintosh's, and the spade on his tail would be replaced by something his species would need. His scale colors would also get much darker. This would take place....during "Owls well that ends well".
As for the species his mother is....here are details without giving the name of the species.
The name withheld is the fastest, smartest, and rarest of the known species of dragons. It is small to medium-sized with a sleek, dark body with varying shades of a navy blue coloration. It sometimes appears bluish and has faint lighter patterns similar to that of a manta ray. The [name] somewhat resembles an axolotl in general appearance and has two pairs of wings with a shape similar to a bat, two mobile, ear-like appendeges on the back of its head that show its mood, as well as other pairs around their jaw depending on their age. They also have a pair of large, yellowish-green, cat-like eyes and sharp retractable teeth. Unlike most dragon species, the [name] has a short neck and lacks any kind of horns. The dragon is about 26 feet in length, 27 as a grown dragon.
In flight, the [name's] wingspan is unrivaled, bearing approximately 48 feet, making it resemble some sort of jet plane. This allows it to fly faster, longer and further than any of the other dragon species. It uses the wing-like fins on its tail to help steer and maneuver, similar to an airplane rudder. However, a [name] will be incapable of flying if one of these fins is missing or destroyed which shows that they are also used for ballast in flight. This species also possess remarkable speed and agility on land, being able to outrun and outmaneuver most other dragons and even being able to jump to and leap from various objects like trees or walls.
[Names] are generally quite aggressive to any form of threat they find. However, like their fellow dragons, [names] appear to have a different personality when they are not threatened. They are one of the cutest dragon species when docile. They are curious creatures that attempt to understand new things they observe and are intelligent enough to attempt to recreate the actions that they see. [Names], in comparison to most other dragons, are very capable of communicating, and seemingly understanding human speech. When [names] are at locations where their visual sight is limited, making it dangerous to fly, they can use a special roar. This roar, visualized as a purple colored sound wave from the dragon's perspective, bounces off all objects and obstacles nearby and allows the dragon to avoid them, even in mid-flight. Unlike with bats, this roar, or at least part of it, is still low enough to be within human hearing range; humans are able to hear the dragon using the roar.
They have hidden fins on their backs. Those "flaps" are flat, leathery fins, placed in 'V' shape and extending from their backs, to the end of tail. They gave them more maneuverability and control in flight. [Names] are shown to be amazing swimmers. They can swim in high speed and hold their breath for a while, but [names] do have a limit and will drown unless they have access to air.
A [name's] main type of attack style is dive-bombing at enemies at great speed while being completely camouflaged within the dark sky. The [name] is able to become completely invisible at night because of its dark colored scales. In addition of dive-bombing, the [name] will also spit out oxygen/acetylene-fueled flames that will explode upon impact and will instantly incinerate anything. They occasionally hang upside down like a bat. Sometimes when they are getting ready to sleep, they singe the ground with their fiery breath, while walking in a circle, much like dogs and cats do before laying down. [Names] are picky eaters and prefer to eat fish. When hunting, a [name] uses its sharp retractable teeth as fishing hooks in order to snatch and grip prey from the water. [Names] are also capable of completely swallowing prey whole and their stomach liquids, which are similar to battery acid, are strong enough to dissolve fish bones. When befriended, [names] are known to regurgitate half of their catch for their friends. [Names] have a penetrating, wolf-like or cat-like stare. While [names] usually keep to themselves, they are very protective. The [name] is a very elusive and a very dangerous dragon and should be avoided at all costs, unless one is willing to try and befriend it.
If you haven't correctly guessed the species that Spike is (except for a few appearance changes due to his father's genetics) and his mother is, here is a picture of one.
