    TerraForming: Day 7

Wrote ~2500 words, completed a chapter, but I'm not completely happy about it. I'm going to take another day to figure out why it makes me unhappy. I lost about 800 words to a stupid mistake on my part and the chapter diverged slightly from what I had originally written, so my unhappiness probably lies there.

    TerraForming: Day 6

I went to a baseball game which lasted far longer than it had any right to, so I wasn't able to write anything today. As per my promise, I'll spend tomorrow updating a story. However, in order to appease the gods, I've dug into my plethora of unfinished stories and found one to share for those who wish to read it.

    Terraforming: Day 5

I've got an hour and a half to write this out. Would have started earlier, but Critical Role streams on Thursdays and I am a sucker for Dungeons and Dragons.

    Prompt: Firsts (suggested by Auramane)

[Slice of Life] [Canon to the First Meeting/First Impressions Universe]

    Terraforming: Day 3

No short story today, but I managed to write 1300 words of a new chapter, so I hope to update in another day or two. Just an update to keep track of what I'm doing. I don't know. Ask me something if you want. Or don't. Seriously, why are you even reading this, it's barely 50 words long.

Not An Apology (But Kinda) · 5:08am Jan 17th, 2015

Greetings!

So, I'm sure that a few of you noticed that I've been dead for... quite a while now. If you hadn't noticed, then I'm slightly sad, and also slightly angry at myself for bringing my death to your attention. Not that you aren't at fault here too; you weren't even at my funeral. It was a very lovely service. At least, I assume that it was lovely. It was closed-casket, so I didn't have a very good view.

Anyway.

I'd like to make it very clear that this blog post is not meant to make up for my months of silence. It is not an apology since the only proper way to apologize would be to sit down and update any one of my currently ongoing stories because they've been sitting on my Google Drive since forever and I'm a terrible person.

Problem: I have the attention-span of the average person living in the contemporary age. Which is exactly equal to fuck all.

Proof of Problem: I have 21 different one-shots sitting in a Google Drive folder, ranging from 2 words to 3000 words (none of them complete). Topics include:
Granny Pie comforting a young and terrified Pinkie Pie (Titled "Granny Pie Said")
Rainbow Dash and Discord fighting over Fluttershy ("She's Mine")
Applejack accidentally breaking Rainbow Dash's wing and trying to make up for it ("Grounded")
A Mauxie story (Temporarily Titled "Mauxie")
Discord and Rarity bonding over their love of creating things ("The Joy of Creation")
Celestia and a young Twilight talking about nightmares ("Night Light")
Discord and Twilight taking a ride on a trans-dimensional elevator ("Elevator")
Harpo Parish Nadermane trying to brush his teeth ("Harpo Parish Nadermane Brushes his Teeth")
Not to mention the in progress chapters for Blood, Synchronization, and First Impressions.

Solution: Give myself a kick in the ass? Focus on only one story at a time? Carefully schedule out my days? Post a few unfinished one-shots as blog posts instead?

I DON'T KNOW! It's not really writer's block, I just can't seem to hold an interest in something long enough to finish it! Even my main stories feel dull in places! I've entirely rewritten the in-progress chapters for Blood, Synchronization, and First Impressions at least once because I just can't make myself happy with it!

Anyway, that's my little rant. I'm sure that this is a common problem for [quote-unquote] "writers", but holy crap, it's really been bothering me. If anyone has some advice for me or general words of encouragement or something, I'd be happy to hear them. And those one-shot topics that I mentioned are completely up for grabs. If you're one of those people who feel like they need my explicit permission and this little blurb isn't enough, then just leave a comment or send me a PM or something. The same goes for anyone who wants to write something in one of [quote-unquote] "my universes" (though I will personally condemn anyone and anything that refers to a "Synco-verse" or anything to that effect. I cringe just thinking about it.)

The bottom line is this: I want to write stuff, and I want people to read that stuff and think, "Wow, this wasn't complete shit" and it kills me that I'm not. I also wanted to write a blog post, because I'm rusty as all hell.

Other than that, life's pretty good. I got a mandolin for Christmas, so I'll probably be doing more music stuff. Have I ever said that I do music stuff? Probably not. Which is just as well, since my music set up consists entirely of a soundproof-room, a microphone, and Audacity.

How're you doing?

All the best,
Terra

PS/EDIT: 609 FOLLOWERS! I HAVEN'T UPDATED IN FOREVER, WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?! HONESTLY! HAVE A BOOP:

My vengeance will be swift, terrible, and unexpected.

Considering that Synchronization hasn't updated since July, I'm in a surprisingly good mood as of late.

As for my advice, I would probably try to focus my attention on one certain thing. Make it the topic that excites you most, and stick with it. Set yourself an arbitrary deadline that will result in a masochistic dinner of nothing but Brussels Sprouts if not met. Set a daily quota of words.

In other words, have a goal. Writing to achieve a goal is a lot more productive than writing aimlessly. Aimless writing is scatterbrained and leads to the chronic attention span of a squirrel.

Glad to see that you are still alive!

I'd like you to work on your works that are sequels, but only if you want to.

Oh good I'm not the only one. You don't know how much this relieves me.

Well look who I found at 3 in the morning.

This is... actually good advice. I'm gonna be using this.

Hello! It's good to hear from you again. I'm still rooting for Syncopated Records, and I really enjoyed the way you wrote their friendships. And you do justice to music, the way you integrate it into Vinyl and Octavia's relationship. Something often bungled by others, but not by you. I only regret that I can't actually hear their performances and practice sessions, such as that wonderful Lighthouse Café section.

Yay Terrasora is alive! Wait... Zombie pony!! Aaahhh!!
Howdy-do-there Terra, nice to see you up and about again!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who has massive trouble sticking to a story when other ideas keep popping into you head going 'ooooh, pick me!' 'pick me!'. But nay! Made for Radio will be finished! Honour to the mighty Terrasora!

Personally I'd like you to do anything to do with Syncopated Records, they're the best ponies. Also, Harpo brushing his teeth sounds amusing. Very amusing. Darned Colgate with her catchy songs!

But please update Synchronization soon, I need more of it in my life!
Also, here are some bribery cookies! (::) (::) (::) (::) (::) (::) (::) (::) (::) (::) (::) (::) (::) (::) (::)

Get those updates and New stories up! Can't wait to read them.

Sorry I missed your funeral, my friend challenged me to light our pool on fire...

Does this mean I have to give back your stuff?
