What the-
Welp.
This happened.
...okay. Rejected because I added to their workload. Sorry.
No, but really. You "cannot give specific feedback" for why my story was deemed unworthy of the site. Yet you send me a link for an Omnibus - I won't deny, helpful on its own merit - just in case I can glean the "why" on my own. In short, you expect me to read your mind and figure out what was done poorly.
Agh.
Ugh.
Grr.
This isn't a reason, folks. This is an excuse. If you can't give me a reason why my fic was rejected, then all I'm told is that you were not able to devote enough time to really read it. Worse still, I'm told that the actual reason you sent it back was because you couldn't find time. I can't control your workload (and, to be fair, I'm certain it's quite a bit), but rejecting my work because you need to clear the table isn't acceptable.
Maybe I'm one of the few people who is willing to wait for a response when I submit something. I remember waiting two, maybe three weeks before I got a response on The Other Side. That was sent back with viable reason. And similarly for Confide - it was sent back to me several weeks later, with a valid reason, and in fact sparked new ideas I want to try. That means one thing: no, I'm not one of the impatient lot who will hound you for an answer two hours after I submit something.
Workloads suck. I get it - I walk into a mountainous mess for forty hours each week, most of the time without anything to show for it other than a paycheck. And sometimes you have to say no to some projects in order to focus on others. But that's for a business...a machine that can't stop moving, and which has direct impact on the livelihoods of those who work there. This is something far less impactful. The workload won't quiver and explode if you take your time with it. Well, at least not in the sense that people will go homeless.
EQD Pre-readers, this is not an acceptable reason. But I'll play your game. I'll give you guys some time before I re-submit, but no, the story will not be edited beyond what I deem necessary. Because you guys haven't told me what was wrong, I cannot fix what you think is wrong. I'm an author, not a mystic! I create worlds; I don't work miracles.
Ugh...
