"The Interview" Update 2 · 6:57am Dec 19th, 2014
After analyzing this whole debacle a bit further, I can comfortably say that out of all the parties involved, it is the THEATERS that we should be the most angry with. They began this chain reaction. They were the first cowards.
I remember reading a few days ago that cinemas nationwide are trying to combat decreasing attendance. Well, after this, more empty seats is exactly what they deserve. Apologies to any hard working theater employees, but I will applaud the closure of any theaters who are part of the big chains that pulled the film.
I would have PROUDLY and GLADLY gone to see this film at the AMC theater just down the street amid the threats. And if I died, I'd die knowing that North Korea would cease to exist within a year of my death. I will die on my feet before I live my entire life on my knees.
Unfortunately, AMC runs every theater in Bloomington, so it will probably be a very long time before I see a film locally again. I am boycotting all major theater chains that pulled the film leading to this debacle.
Yes, that means Equestria Girls 3 as well. Carmike Cinemas, the first chain to pull out, was the closest theater to play Equestria Girls and Rainbow Rocks in Indianapolis. I will wait for a Blu-ray release.
And to the owner of the Alamo Drafthouse in Dallas: you are a TRUE American. I know your hands are tied now, but you never backed down, especially when you offered to screen Team America FOR FREE. I salute you, sir.
We're still in the middle of this, but if it is destined to never be released, The Interview will go down in cinematic history for one of the worst reasons imaginable.
Because we as theatergoers are no longer allowed to take the risk of going to see a controversial film. We have been told to live in fear, to cower before anonymous terrorist threats. And that's a damn shame.
I doubt the government is going to take these threads lying down thought, I expect to see some major shit happening within the next 12 months.
Wait, so North Korea actually made that sort of threat? I knew it. Kim Jong Un is just a little boy trying to act tough. It's kind of pathetic too. If there's anyone on the planet who doesn't think the United States military would flatten Pyongyang, oddly enough, it's North Koreans.
And at the very least, Sony could still put this up for DVD/Blu-ray release and maybe strike deals with video streaming services Netflix or Hulu later on. Hopefully they do.
What a fucking waste.
2663546 The most current news, they will not being releasing in any form.
Sorry we can't put lives in danger because you wanna see a film, dude.
These people weren't cowards, they were taking preventive measures. Terrorist threats are a pretty fucking big deal, and shouldn't be taken lightly.
I understand why you're mad, but you can't just demand that people show a movie that could get people killed just because you want to see a movie.
2663868 I'm sorry you missed my point. But if you and those like you want to cry "innocent lives" every time someone shakes a fist or hacks a company that doesn't give a shit about cyber security, then please, feel free to live in fear. I would rather die on my feet than spend a lifetime cowering on my knees.
Because this isn't about a mediocre Seth Rogen movie. A very dangerous precedent has been set this week, and it is a serious blow to freedom of speech, and an unfortunate victory for terrorism, dictatorships, and censorship.
2663548 I know, All that work, and then just because a few hackers issue a threat you decide to pull it. For all we know, they might still go through with their threat, even though the movie has been pulled.
That Alamo drafthouse is where I wanted to see Rainbow Rocks. Apparently, a lot of Bronies went there. I've been there for other films, and I'll definitely go there in the future! I agree whole-heartedly with this!

Well, at the moment, they're not sure. It's likely the hackers are from North Korea, but nobody's sure if they're linked to the North Korean government at all.
Though, North Korea's straight-up praised the hackers' actions, so make of that what you will.

Perhaps. And I get that Sony doesn't exactly have the best reputation for cyber security (didn't the PSN get hacked two or three years ago?), but keep in mind the sort of oppressive, destitute shithole North Korea is. If the hackers are from North Korea, that doesn't exactly leave very many options aside from North Korea's government. I don't think most of North Korea even has any sort of internet or intranet.

Oh, I'm sure it'll get released a few months or even years from now. Although that does add another layer of disappointment. All that marketing in the past month or so gone to waste.
Sony looks like such a motley crew of fuckups and cowards right now. Like they were really gonna "9/11" a theater....
