It's the kill one save a thousand with Spike.Twilight was taking something that showed that it was capable to learn, perceive and show a full range of emotions and blowing them up into pure energy. The only thing they lacked was life experience, but she robbed them of that chance. Even if they are just clones, they were still sentient biological beings for all we know.
