MN7 Update Blog - Keeping you all swotted up! · 1:34am Dec 10th, 2014

Well, as you all know, I was having a slow period due to work rush at the end. Overall I got more done than I thought I would at this time of year with this much work going on all around it. The last few weeks have been the slowest yet for it but the ones before I got up to around that previously mentioned 55% mark so…yay? By my estimate may be off the harsh schedule at work by 6th January, so we’ll see!

The idea of a short story for Christmas I’m still sorta thinking on. The issue being that fitting it between 25 and 26 is kinda interestingly odd, pacing wise, given how Chapter 26 starts. I’ve actually toyed with other ideas, including even alternative viewpoints, but ultimately found that it would just harm the core of the perspective.

All said and done though, I still feel I could do something. Probably pick a few characters and use up some unsaid things thus far, for those who don’t maybe get as much space in 26 as they might want to. That might be a ncie little Christmas gift to reward those patiently waiting, huh?

As for 26 itself…and onwards to 27 and 28, well, they’ve been taking much of my lunchbreaks and quiet moments at work. Not writing, I can’t get foreign files into the NDA area where I do my job, but just that usual heavy planning of tone, pacing and stuff. 28 had a few issues that were annoyin me constantly about how it begins and kicks off from after the spectacular climax I am planning for 27. How to go from a huge moment into a finale’s beginning when it already feels like you hit one, hm? That sort of thing is hard and some hard talks with an editor some time ago helped a little, but I still need more depth. If I spoke it out to people, it’d likely sound fine, but I’ve never felt happy with a climactic chapter if I’m not utterly psyched by every stage of it from beginning to end. It saw me well in chapters 12 (The Mall Riot) and 23 (The Mountaintop) and I don’t intend to stop that now.

Going back to 26 for a moment, it’s progression is aiding in a sense of brevity to some earlier scenes. The time has given me good oppurtunity to realise “No, that little page really isn’t needed and just slows it all down” to some bits. In others, it’s let me “design” some of the climactic scenes of next chapter in my head more…including a wild change up of the ending for a moment, before reverting to the original again. Never be afraid to let utterly planned things be in flux up till the end. I have thus learned. Even toyed with a two part release like Chapter 21…still contemplating it as well, to help digestion and pacing. It helped 21 soooo so much when I did that, so I’m almost leaning toward that a little. We’ll see! Either way it’ll be the same story!

Still aiming for January, likely the middle to second half. I won’t say for a happy years end yet because I’m sure I’ll be talking more in the coming days. Look out for more updates, don’t be afraid to ask for those Sunday updates though (via tumblr), even though things are slow due to work there is still that short if I find the time!

God.

The HYPE!

We'll be waiting. :ajsmug:

The hype train never ends.

Until it crashed on a mountaintop.

ack, wall of text, how did I ever even catch of with MN7... oh ya, because it's a damn good read, and my dyslexia be damned. So just keep up the good work, and we will read it when it comes out, and that coming from someone who hates to read much of the time.

2644074 You & me both (and its "lexdysia":derpytongue2:).

I look forward to the new year and all the adventures it holds for my favorite Pegasus in the wastelands (sorry Calamity). Here's hoping that Murk finds his way beneath some mistletoe with Unity... :pinkiehappy::heart:
