Rayman: Revolution(AKA Rayman 2 for PS2) Review · 7:37pm Nov 29th, 2014
Why is this the game that constantly gets ported. I can think of other games that need to get remade, like I don't know, Rayman 1! Does it really deserve all the praise it gets. It did bring Rayman successfully into 3D and
Story
Hate to say it, but the story is the weakest part of the game. Good news, it has a beginning, middle and end. Bad news, it's a generic plot. Robot pirates, lead by Admiral Razorbeard have been tearing the world apart and capturing everyone. Even Rayman. But thanks to his friend Globox, the two make a daring escape and is soon task to find four mask and destroy the pirates. It's a pretty standard plot but it really builds the world. Lots of races are introduced, like the Lums and Teensies, new characters like Globox, Murphy and Ly, and we met God and the Devil.
Gameplay
Gameplay is very smooth. The platforming feels a lot more fun, with the heli-hair allowing more accurate landings and there's a bit more combat involved, but that just requires you to keep spamming the attack button and fighting robots becomes tedious. While you do get new moves as the game go's on, it felt more natural than the first game. There are also times where the gameplay changes like when you get to water-ski or ride a walking missile and are fun for the most part.
To my knowledge, all the versions of this game had different features and this one has three hub areas, two new boss fights, an upgrade system and challenges that increase your health.
Presentation
In my first playthrough, I didn't care that much about about the environments. This time I appreciate them a bit more, although I still have my nitpick of some levels look have the same theme(Jungle/Pirate). Some areas do stick out like the tomb, the water temple or Hell. The soundtrack is pretty decent with a some good tracks, but it's pretty forgettable, with a few exceptions, Cave of Bad Dreams com to mind. There's also voice-acting but I set my voices to gibberish. I would say that Murphy sounds too quiet.
Verdict
So yes this is a good game. Not the best in the series and it is the easiest, but it helped put it in the 3D genre.
8/10
I prefer the Ps1 version of the game, i rember playing the demo so many times *_* !
