Now, I'm going to do something strange here, something a bit off-kilter.

Watch this video first, and then click to see the rest of this article.

I know the video is about religion, and I usually try to stay clear of that subject...

I also know it's a lot to ask to watch a forty minute video for a blog-post, but please, trust me, I'm going somewhere with this and it won't be nearly as effective a reveal without the info in that video freshly in mind.

So, yeah, I think I've cracked why non-bronies find us so annoying!

Even if they don't put it into those words, or have even consciously considered it, we basically trigger that same 'oh god, shut up!' as the hard-core Christians that need everything be Jesus shaped for them to give it a look!

Now, I don't quite think we've got anybody quite so mad (yet) that they've put 'Brony' in the 'Faith' box on the ballot...

But is that perhaps just a measure of time, given that this has apparently reached such critical mass culturally, that we more or less act as a world-religion?

Have you excepted Our Lady And Savior, Celestia yet? Only through the example of Her Harmony, may we brief, flawed mortals truly Love and Tolerate... :pinkiecrazy:

OK, I kid, I kid. :trollestia:

Still, I can't help but feel like I'm onto something here.

So, any thoughts? Have I simply not gotten enough coffee today and my mind's wandering into strange lands, or do you think this could be at least part of the reason for the 'anti-brony' backlash?

Well, supposedly "Jedi" is a legitimate "religion" in the UK.
And some guy made it legal to wear a pasta strainer for his Photo ID due to being part of "Pastafarianism". "Just because my religion is only a few decades old doesn't give you the right to discriminate against me" kind of thing.

It makes me smile.

Don't saw video, but I guess that it says. Most of early Christian ecclesias always tried to adapt, consume and process everything that they could. From Dies Natalis Solis Invicti to cornerstones of Greek philosophy. Those who don't wanted to do it - now dead.

You are quite correct about source of irritation of others, though.
Obnoxious bronies just love to equify everything. But don't worry, it's no more religion than pastafarianism. Yet...

In before great Kool-Aid "We are leaving for Equestria!" party. :pinkiecrazy:

Seth's one of my heroes. Totally. <3

Though I don't think that's the reason for the anti-brony phenomenon. Christianity with it's many plaginations has been part of the mainstream culture for centuries, while the pony fandom is a new fish in the pond. I think the negative reaction has more to do with our tendency to "ponify" familiar things, such as TF 2, Fallout and... whatever. Fans of those products likely just feel like protesting against things that "blaspheme" against their beloved manly game worlds with all that icky girly stuff.

Seriously, they are just normalists that can't handle anything that deviates from their narrow worldview.

Uh, yeah... This isn't new for me.

Sorry. :applejackunsure:
