Ghost Lights continues making progress · 12:44pm Nov 11th, 2014
You may have noticed that there's a new chapter posted every Saturday. I'm pretty sure that's the pace I'll be sticking to. I was hoping to possibly move the timetable forward to one chapter on Saturdays and one on a weekday (probably Wednesday), which is what I did with Seashell since I know people hate to wait. I don't think that's going to work for Ghost Lights, unfortunately. It's still being written, and although I have a bunch of chapters buffered up, my courseload at school is particularly heavy on homework right now. A slower but consistent pace is going to be better than moving too fast, running out of material, and then keeping you all waiting for an indeterminate amount of time for the next chapter.
So that's the news on that front. Steady pace to the finish, hopefully. If I can get ahead substantially and finish early, I'll accelerate the pace of posting chapters, but that's gonna be a very big if.
As far as length goes, I have about 40,000 words written so far. My tentative anticipation for the total length of the story would be somewhere around 60,000, plus or minus maybe 10k depending on how deeply I decide I want to explore certain themes and ideas I have going on. I'm actually kind of excited right now, because, without spoiling anything, I'm finally really in the latter parts of the story where the major satisfying payoff of writing about a lot of the core things I'd really intended for this to be about is getting to be realized.
Right now, though? I'm going to sleep. It's the early hours of the morning, and at some point in the coming day I'm expecting a shiny new NVidia GTX 970 based video card to show up in the mail. Hopefully the awesomeness of a latest-gen GPU with 4 GB of DDR5 onboard won't distract me too much from staying on task with this story... But we'll just have to see.
Goodnight.
