The unicorn sat with his little filly by the fireplace and opened the book once more. "Let's see what happens next!"

    Black Feather Project Update

The last month has been pretty crazy. My dog got a massive bladder infection and I had to spend $2000 on vet bills to get an ultrasound and all the nonsense that goes with that, all to get a prescription for $30 worth of medicine to fix the situation. Been kinda busy with that as well as upcoming holiday planning, etc.

    One more rewritten chapter

    Hey everyone.

Well, that last chapter took 3 weeks of hard work, mostly design, but nobody has commented on it so I can't tell how anyone feels about the story so far. I'm hoping people can share their thoughts because it helps me to know how the story is being received.

    More new characters

I've recently finished a scene where Dinky gets to know one of the platoon members. I find Dinky's POV to be fascinating to write, though all the Dinky POV scenes will be brand new content (for you old fans out there) because Dinky wasn't previously written into this part of the story. She's a fun character to see the world through. Innocent and naïve, happily venturing into things that

Alright, it's time for a shift of tone.

I had a pretty long chat with Duvet yesterday, and we decided that chapter eleven really does need a thorough rework from the 2018 version. This is the last of what I'd call my "weak writing". Chapters 12-21 are pretty much perfect, so if I can fix 11, this is going to mean great things for the story.

My feelings on having crossed fifty thousand words · 4:15am Nov 11th, 2014

Well, it's been quite a journey over the last two months since taking on this massive project. It's certainly not what I would have expected even after starting, and if anyone told me three months ago that I'd be writing an enormous novel in the MLP universe I'd not have believed it.

I came into this site with just an idea and more than a few nervous questions about getting started, but now I've got a very exciting adventure being written and four amazing and very dedicated prereaders who are each contributing in their own unique ways to make the story as good as it possibly can be.

So for crossing fifty thousand words, I'd like to personally thank my prereaders for their support, and also the many random authors on fimfiction who have put up with endless forum questions from a writing noob.

Pawz, for his ideas and moral support, he is always able to show me that element of logic or consistency which somehow slipped past me. His assistance in building up my momentum and confidence has been invaluable.

Onlyanorthernsong, for his extremely thorough character analysis, especially when writing pre-existing characters from MLP and of course especially Nyx herself. Always willing to question my wording choices and nitpick every tiniest detail, he leaves no grain of sand unturned. He has kept me on a very narrow path to always keep me thinking about the traits of each character and making sure everything stays consistent.

Alcatraz for a mix of grammar and consistency advice. He's always one of the first to preread a new chapter or section and point out flaws I had not considered, offering insightful commentary on nearly every event of the story itself.

TundraStanza for his absolutely astounding grammar and punctuation knowledge, having corrected hundreds of nitpicky mistakes that the rest of us somehow miss. It's like having an English professor on board. Not only has his assistance given the story a high degree of quality, but it has helped me learn quite a bit about English composition that I never paid much attention to before, despite thinking I was pretty good at it.

I'd also like to thank Dannykat for his knowledge of the Fallout Equestria zebra war era, and for letting me pick his brain dozens of times when I was getting this story off the ground. Likewise, the regulars at the Fallout Equestria forum have been very helpful as well.

Well done, everyone. I look forward to your continued help as the story progresses. Things are only just getting rolling, and there is much adventure and excitement yet to be written!

Fifty thousand already? Looks like I have some catching up to do! Looking forward to it :D

2587638 lol your avatar is strangely appropriate for your comment!

2587643 XD XD XD It's funny how often my avatar matches my words.

:yay: for 50,000.

Also I not sure if you've seen this or read it but I'm writing my own epic expected to go past 120,000 words. I've only got about 3-5 chapters left depending on how I want to tie it up.

Aw, shucks. :twilightsheepish:
I almost feel embarrassed taking credit for the lessons that all my great English professors hammered into me throughout my school life.

2587651 Oooh, sounds interesting. Something I'll have to check out.

Man I wish I wasn't such a slow reader. So much good stuff.
