New chapter to Equestria: A History Revealed is here! Check it out!
Chapter 33: The Planned Invasion – A Royal Wedding
Sorry it took so long! I would've liked to get it out to you sooner, given that the fic's writing is all done, by there's still a lot of editing and biblio stuff to do. And school's really getting into the swing of things now. But now that my midterms are done, I should be getting back to releasing more consistently now! (maybe I can finish all my releases before November is done? Here's hoping!)
Hopefully the fact that this chapter's super long serves as a sort of apology. Kinda like you get two chapters for the price of one!
I think this is one of the longer chapters of the fics so far! A very close second to Chapter 21. (In fact I checked. I think the fimfiction word counter might be off, because it says this chapter is longer, but in actuality, chapter 21 is longer by about 30 words)
This is probably because upon rewatching "A Canterlot Wedding", I started noticing a whole bunch of things that Loose Change would be sure to pick apart. And then I started making more and more connections between the "plot holes" until I had a network of conspiracies in play.
Don't get me wrong, I love the Royal Wedding episodes. They're some of the best moments in the series! But I think most can agree that it had some questionable points. When I rewatch episodes before writing the chapter, I try to put myself under Loose Change's mindset. What would she notice? What points would she (deliberately) ignore in her essay? What crazy connections would she make?
That's definitely some of the fun in writing for the canon historical events. Just rewatching the show under a "Loose Change" mindset. And creating the theories themselves is half the fun of it! Most of these conspiracies (believe it or not) are actually made up on the fly! (except for the ones that may have been foreshadowed or mentioned in previous chapters) Sometimes I even surprise myself at the connections I make between events in Equestrian history. I suppose Loose Change's logic is kinda right in a way (and that's not something you'll hear me say often). By that I mean, with enough jumps in sense, anything can be seen as a conspiracy. And then everything can be connected.
I find that it's better to write for Loose Change once I'm super tired. I've heard all the theories that people are more creative when they're tired (as their brain turns off logic and lets creativity fly) and I definitely agree with that. It especially helped in a fic such as this, as the whole fic relies on these over-the-top connections and relationships found by this crazy pony that no one would ever think of otherwise. Add a little bit of arrogance and her own unique character traits, and you've got writing for Loose Change down a T!
On the 10th legion thing, I was trying to find a good allusion to make to history, when I came across Julius Caesar's Legio X Equestris, his 10th and most trusted legion. And then there's that Celestia=dictator thing, plus the wordplay of the word Equestris made it too good of a possibility to pass up! So there's the reasoning for that.
That whole eating alive of them, well I deliberately strayed away from the details. Although I suppose if your imagination can fill in the gaps, that makes it worse in some ways. Well, it's pretty clear that Loose Change was making up the whole Changeling feeding habits, especially given what she said earlier on in the chapter, so the disturbing imagery notwithstanding, it was heavily implied not to be true. And besides, as canon watchers of the show, we all know that Changelings do in fact eat love, which throws Loose Change's theories out the window.
Anyways, 'till next time! Season 3's next up! Don't miss it!
