Library, huh? · 4:33am Nov 7th, 2014
Well, after some time to get used to the idea of this Library feature (short answer: I like it!), I've decided to try out my own. And after thinking through what a library is, it only makes sense that I use it as a collection of the stuff I've already read. Of course I can't remember everything I've read, but the ones I'm holding on to - Favorites and Read Later - can and have all been sorted into one of five Shelves.
Well, one of four, really, because nothing has been dropped on the last one yet. Here we go!
The Display Case - For the few that absolutely get it. This Shelf is meant to proudly show off the stories that I love. Regardless of content, these ones nail their storytelling from every angle and build their characters better than I could hope. This is a Shelf that will mostly hold completed stories, but exceptions will be made (and already have been made) for those that clearly aren't going to lose their spark. (It's no surprise that this Shelf is dominated by Cold in Gardez.)
The Bedside Table - The first of two Shelves that mainly serve to track the progress on their stories. For this one, it's usually reserved for the incomplete stories that have made a very good impression on me. You know the ones that hook you and often don't let go? The ones you'd want to read each night before bed? Eeyup, I stuck 'em nearby so they'd be close at hand. When these guys update, I wanna know!
The Wall Shelf - This one is more of a catch-all, and will definitely be the largest one among the five. Like the Display Case, this one is mainly for stories that have been finished. Unlike the Display Case, these stories are good, but not jaw-droppingly good. I have a few reservations about what they've done. Regardless, they're all enjoyable reads, and ones I'm likely to read again when the mood strikes.
The Bookbag - Similar to the Bedside Table, this "Shelf" will mostly hold the stories I'm tracking. However, the ones here are those that I'm not terribly worried about. They may update two or three times over before I get around to checking them again. That said, it's one in which I don't track updates. No disrespect to the respective authors - their stories, writing styles, or other methods of authoring just don't resonate with me as well as others.
The Floor - Pfft. You know exactly where I'm going with this one. The Floor is the final shelf (that, at the time of this blog post, is totally barren) that will hold the stories that I really just plain didn't care for. Whether they had poor storytelling, bad plot devices, too many conveniences, or other sins, they lost my interest and burned out. The stories here are those that I will not actively track, like the Bookbag, but this time I probably won't bother with them again.
Altogether, this library feature is a cooler way to show off the reading list of the user in question. I like it. And this is the route I decided to take with it. If any of you guys find your content on my Shelves, then this list will give you a quick-fire, blanket way of saying what I thought of it. Naturally, I'd ask you all to shoot for the Display Case, but I can't tell you how to write. (I'll happily point out mistakes, though.)
So there's that. A little somethin' somethin'. Where's your pone?
Oh there she is.
Yeah! She's grown on me too! Lookit 'er.

The bookshelf update was a long-awaited boon to the overly-organized readers everywhere.
