I'm Bored. · 12:50am Nov 6th, 2014
My mind is literally so overloaded with ideas for Lazarus I have no idea where to begin.
"How about from the beginning–"
No shut up! Let me finish.
It's got to the point where I'm coming up with them in the middle of writing. Most of the time this would be seen as a good thing, seeing that it helps drive stories along. That would be the case however if these ideas actually fell into what is going on in the scene that I am currently writing.
I'm in the middle of writing first contact and for some reason I'm coming up with ideas for future events in the freaking plot! I fell into a spot in 1st C where I'm trying to think of how things are going to go down, I'm getting wonderful ideas. BUT NONE OF THEM HAVING NOTHING TO DO WITH F*CKING 1ST C!
Brain I know you're trying to be helpful, and trust me you are; but please focus on the present and not the future!
on the off chance that this info will be useful, I recommend having another doc open to just jot down everything that comes to your head and if things ever settle down you might be able to make a bit more progress
I know that feel. I know it too well. be sure to write them down at least to sort them out later, then push through first contact
Collaborate with a friend with your ideas
The most helpful thing for me in my opinion
2576337 That's actually what I've been doing with my editors, and it's been extremely useful. Already I've been able map out a couple a sub plots with them that'll hopefully be able to be put to good use.

I've tried writing down ideas before but for some reason that has always been a negative for me. Whenever I write "good ideas" down it always turns out to be BAD ideas (in the readers eyes that is) so I've learned to only use the ones that tend to stay in my head and never leave.
2576505 fair point. I've had ideas that would never leave, especially this one scenario for a novel i want to write. I know if i keep it one way, its likely to not fit in, so i play it through different circumstances each time to fit possible variables.
(also, turns out said scenario might not be in it at all due to plot holes, but i still work through it because its fun)
oh yes, dis gonna be good.
(if not completely insane judging by my conversations with you.)
and don't be afraid to kill a few ideas here and there. Things can get overcrowded quick.
That, or you can be a dick and skip first contact, then continue the story like it was a thing that happened
I suggest typing everything that comes to mind as it comes to mind. So once you work past the hard parts, you'll have plenty of starting material for later.
We the readers will have to bear through more downtime waiting for the chapters you get stuck on, but that time will be made up for on chapters that are far easier thanks to the backlogged material being pre-written.
(At least, that's just how I tend to operate when writing. It may or may not work for you, but I figured I'd share it in case it does help... Which I hope it does! )
2576887 That was an idea skipping first contact and all but I quickly shot it in the face before it could even grow.
2576957 A couple guys below suggested something similar but I said–

Ah.
Well, do whatever works best for you.
