My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Feature Film Revealed! · 8:28pm Oct 20th, 2014

Well, it’s finally happening.

I had long speculated that Equestria Girls and its sequel Rainbow Rocks were made to test the waters for a potential feature length My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic film.

And now we know for certain that it is indeed happening.

Equestria Daily announced this morning based on an article from Variety that a feature length My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic has been optioned by Hasbro. It is slated for release in 2017. Its script is being written by Joe Ballarini, who was apparently involved in the film Ice Age: Continental Drift. (I’ve only seen the first Ice Age so I have no idea what that was like.) The film will be co-produced by Meghan McCarthy.

In case there was any doubt this is a MLP:FIM film, Meghan McCarthy shared this tweet on it.

With the MLP:FIM film being released in 2017, it seems to be part of that five year plan Hasbro has for My Little Pony. Depending on when it comes out, this film could follow MLP’s sixth or seventh possibly final season. Or it could come out between its sixth and seventh or seventh and eighth seasons. It’s not like it’s never happened before. The Transformers: The Movie came out between seasons of The Transformers back in the 80s, and The Simpsons Movie did the same thing a few years ago. That is of course assuming MLP does indeed last beyond the next season. Otherwise, there’s going to be a really long pony drought between the third Equestria Girls film and this.

The MLP:FIM film will be produced through Allspark Studios, Hasbro’s new inhouse movie studio, alongside a live action adaptation of Jem and the Holograms. Quite an interesting development in recent years with certain companies starting their own movie studios to make their own movie adaptations. It certainly worked out for Marvel. If any Transformers and G.I. Joe fans were hoping this Allspark Studios means Hasbro will take it upon themselves to make better Transformers and G.I. Joe films, you’d be sadly mistaken. The Variety article made it clear Hasbro has no intentions of ending its relationships with the studios that currently produce either franchise’s live action films. (Though Michael Bay’s Transformers movies aren’t that bad in my opinion. Though I have yet to see Age of Extinction.)

Anyway, my hope remains that an MLP:FIM will find a way to seamlessly incorporate every major character that has appeared on the show up to that point. Definitely Discord will have to be in it! Meghan McCarthy has been a roll lately with the Equestria Girls films and “Twilight’s Kingdom”. I have the utmost confidence she can pull this film off.

The only thing that worries me though is that it appears that Lauren Faust is not yet involved in this film. It would seem rather unfair if Lauren Faust isn’t involved in the film that wouldn’t exist if she hadn’t created MLP:FIM in the first place. Admittedly, Lauren Faust is currently working on the film Medusa for Sony pictures, which as of yet does not appear to have a release date. She could legitimately be too busy to work on the MLP:FIM movie. I’m already confident though that this MLP:FIM film will have a sequel. That’s the way of things now. Almost every movie has a sequel! So, I’m pretty sure by the time an MLP:FIM film sequel rolls along, Lauren Faust could be available to participate in an MLP:FIM film.

It appears that the future of MLP remains as bright as it ever has. We’ve got three years of waiting ahead of us. But I am almost certain it will be worth the wait.

What do you all think about the prospect of a My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic movie?

God bless you all. God bless America. And God bless Equestria.

I read the news earlier today and I'm really looking forward to seeing how this film turns out! :pinkiehappy: I'm assuming that this movie is going to be huge since they're already making plans for it three years prior to its release.

Man, the latter half of the 2010's certainly has a lot going for it. A new Star Wars trilogy, Batman vs. Superman, all of Marvel's future projects, a trilogy of films taking place in the Harry Potter universe (and written by J.K. Rowling :pinkiehappy:), and now an official My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic movie!

There's only one thing I have to say in response to all of this:

2546464 That is certainly true. I say we must gird our loins for the next few years are going to be epic!
