MLP movie in 2017! · 3:21pm Oct 20th, 2014

Possibly a full pony one, at that!

My main worry is that it'll be a 'finale' movie. I don't want pony to end dangit! That's just speculation for now though.

I have exactly the same hopes and worries D:

So far from now... D:

I Don't Want MLP to End too. But That's I'm Praying It Doesn't End....

I wouldn't be upset if it ended there. The release date is 2017, so that would give us two or three more seasons, guaranteed (they aren't going to end the show this year if they have a movie coming out two years later.)

A seven or eight season run is a good run for a TV show. If it has to end sometime, which reality kind of suggests that it does, I'd rather see it have a proper send off in a theater, tying up loose threads and giving us a chance to really say good-bye, than just hear that the next season isn't coming some day.

I agree with Bookplayer completely. The show has to end someday, and concluding FIM with a movie after seven or so seasons is a pretty good way to go out.

My main worry is that DHX will be put to the to the side to make it. Granted, Meghan McCarthy is producing, so, with any luck, some of the people who made the show so great will still be involved, but the fact that a new production company is collaborating and a writer with no MLP-related experience is writing it makes me nervous. But maybe I should just know to trust them by now. If McCarthy's involved, she'll do her best to keep things on track.

As long as they remorselessly pillage all the DHX assets for the new studio it might turn out okay.

Given the far-off release date, and the lack of DHX involvement, I'm sceptical if this will have anything to do with G4 at all. It'd be nice if it did, but there's alarm bells ringing.

Did I miss something about a new studio? The only thing I see in the article about animation is:

“We have a lot of experience working on this particular brand,” and when it comes to producing the animation, technology has brought down costs to a level where it doesn’t need to spend $100 million or more to make the film. Hasbro declined to disclose the budget on the “Pony” pic.

Hasbro Studios has been producing MLP all along, and doesn't have in-house animation (currently,) so unless they announce a different animation studio (or that they're building one), I'd assume they're still using DHX.

ETA: And since the Jem movie is live action, Allspark seems to just be a new name they're slapping on a part of themselves, probably to try to sound less "corporate-overlord-y." I don't see any indication it'll do animation.

CELESTIA DAMN IT, HASBROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! :flutterrage:
(Had to Parody a quote from TFS DBZ Abridged Episode 12: A Rose by any other Namek)

2545324 2545333 Guess You Guys Make a Good Point, We Have to Say Goodbye to MLP: Friendship is Magic Sometime, But You Know what, Sometimes We Never Say Goodbye, Remember what Carolina Said when she told a little story about her mother to Church in Season 10 of RVB?

Carolina: My mother had a saying. Did I ever tell you about my mother?
Epsilon: (laughs) No, I don't think you ever did.
Carolina: She wasn't around a lot when I was a kid. And when she was she could only stay a short time. Seems like she always had somewhere else to be. Something important to do. And when she left, she wouldn't say goodbye to me. Instead, she always told me, "Never say goodbye. If you don't say goodbye then you aren't really gone, you just aren't here right now."

That means that the fandom won't Die even the Show comes to an End, we can still make art, fanfic, and videos of ponies, the show is over, the ponies will be there in our hearts and in our memories forever, even if we forget, there will be some ponies from G1 to G4, always there to remember us by....
My Worries are the Generation 5 of Ponies, I'm Both Worrying and Wondering What G5 Ponies are Gonna Be Like, I Bet It's Gonna Be Improved, Gonna be Cool and Awesome, or not, in case if it's the G2 or G3 Version.

2545394

That's true. And I'll even cross my fingers for a G5 someday. With any luck, Hasbro will learn from G4's success, and, with the right people working on it, G5 could be just as awesome. We can hope, anyway.

yeah, i sure hope so... and i'll be crossing my fingers too.

The film will join “Jem and the Holograms” as the first to be produced through Allspark Pictures, a new label through which the company will self-finance or pair up with other companies to co-finance a slate of film projects.

That, basically. Says to me they'll be using another studio than DHX.

2545416
That's just a production studio, like Hasbro Studios. And since Jem is live action, I don't think that in itself indicates anything about what animation studio they might use.

Which is good! If I were you, I'd relax until we hear something about an animation studio. :ajsmug:

2545434 Hm, you have a point. Time will tell, I suppose.

Absolutely nothing says that the show has to end with a movie. Just because they did it with Prime doesn't mean Pony will have to suffer the same fate. So long as MLP is as big a cash-cow as it is for Hasbro, it'll live long and strong. There are a lot of bronies and younger fans who would watch the show for as long as it runs and will continue to buy the merchandise just to keep it going.

Besides, wasn't there something out there about all seasons through Season 8 being greenlit?

2545688
It is possible they could keep it going, a few cartoons have had really long runs like that (SpongeBob, Rugrats, and of course The Simpsons come to mind) but it's definitely the exception.

2545712

Granted, I don't like it when shows stick around past their prime (Spongebob being one of those shows, Rugrats being another). I'd prefer they end on a somewhat high note, because after a certain point, it just becomes sad. That being said, I think FiM has enough steam left to get a total of about ten good seasons out of it before all is said and done. Look at what happened with Season 3's finale after all. When Season 4 was announced, there were a lot of skeptical bronies who thought the show had nose-dived after Magical Mystery Cure, and figured that the creators were out of ideas. Many thought that the show was donesies.

Look how that turned out. Season 4 has probably surpassed Season 2 as the people's general favorite season so far. No reason to think the writers can't keep that momentum going. There's a lot of world out there to explore, and we've not even finished with Equestria yet. If MLP switches to a more adventurous gear, there's almost no limit to what the show could do.

But now I'm speculating. I don't like doing that for fear of being disappointed later on. At the end of the day, Meghan McCarthy has done a fantastic job steering the series onto a new course that bronies and kids alike have just eaten up. And I don't think she's finished yet by a long shot.

2017? That's a bit of a ways away...:pinkiegasp:

My question is this: How exactly is the show going to fill in a bunch of new episodes before the movie? What I mean is that the show is kinda running out ideas for new episodes. I mean, the CMC have to get their cutie marks eventually, and Rainbow Dash has to get accepted into the Wonderbolts sooner or later. I just don't know how in the world they are going to come up with anymore episode ideas. :applejackunsure::unsuresweetie:

I think a movie would be a great way to see the series go out. :)

Of course, I've been gunning for MLP to end since the end of season 2, so... c.c

Um, the same way we write new fanfics? But a little lot more PG. :ajsmug:

Oh dear.. :fluttercry:
