Next Story: DayBreak · 6:07am Oct 11th, 2014
I must follow my muse, as you well know, and the past couple of weeks my muse has said, "No, don't work on those stories, work on this one."
My muse is incredibly persuasive. The new story, DayBreak, will be up this weekend at the soonest, and next week at the latest.
But what's this story even about? you might ask. Why should I care? you might wonder.
Yessiree Bob, it’s time to experiment again.
Title: DayBreak [Dark][Adventure]
Rated: Teen (Action violence)
Celestia is not invincible. Strong, yes. Ageless, assuredly. Magical, undoubtedly. But not invincible.
The Princess of the Day has been attacked, and she did not escape unscathed.
While Luna fights against the mortal fear gripping her subjects in the wake of the assassination attempt, the assassin runs free. Twilight Sparkle must assemble a team to bring the attacker to justice. Few ponies can be trusted, and fewer still can be expected to succeed.
But the kingdom has heroes: The Knights of Equestria. Ponies who have stood against evil and won, who fight to make Equestria a safer place. They just haven’t met each other yet.
An adventurer past her prime.
A tinkerer with too much time on his hooves.
A spy whose primary instinct is to lie.
A dishonored soldier with an axe to grind.
Their individual skills make them ideal for the mission, but most have only worked alone.
Who is the assassin? Where did she come from? What is her purpose? Can the knights come together as a team, or will the assassin find her next mark?
Now, what’s dark about it? Frankly, ponies get the absolute snot kicked out of them. We’re talking beat ’em up, knock ’em down, drag ’em out style violence. It’s basically a Harrison Ford/Liam Neeson thriller (pick whichever is your favorite, if you have a preference).
Oh, and there’s also the bit about Luna’s internal struggles, Twilight’s sorrow, and redacted’s vengeance. But most of it is snot-kicking action violence.
I can totally understand skipping out if darkness isn’t your thing. However, I also hope to inject my signature brand of clever character moments into this story. It’s no slog of dark, depressing dreariness. In fact, I think for the most part it’ll be pretty fun.
At its heart, the reason I wanted to write this story in the first place is to ask the question: What happens to Equestria without Celestia? Who depends on her? Who is better off without? Who misses her? How does it affect the other princesses?
We all have our own vision of Celestia’s character. I hope you’ll enjoy getting a look at mine.
Also, this is in continuity with the Near-Future Ponyville series. I’ll post a new timeline as soon as I get it together.
Any preliminary thoughts?
How dark we talking, compared to say, Blueblood's Ascension Part 3? Most of that was fine, near the end it got seriously dark. Also, I thought we were calling Near-Future Ponyville the Fahr Drill-verse?
Anyway, I'm sure the character interaction in the team will be awesome, you have a talent for fleshing out the background like the rendering on a high-end graphics card.

Roughly comparable, minus the almost-mind-control and plus on-screen murder. The main difference is gonna be the higher body count, honestly, plus the fact that when Celestia's out of business, things go wrong.
It's, like, super-edgy, man.
When did we decide this? You never consulted me on this! What is this? I wanna lawyer!
I wondered if I should do something like that, but as of right now Fahr Drill plays such a small part... it just doesn't quite seem fitting.
Also, I'd like to avoid doing "-verses" whenever I can. Some people are picky about that. It's a series. I don't normally try to cater to the whims of the fandom, but I have to admit I like the sound of "series." Almost as much as I like the sound of my own voice.
Daw, shucks. Thanks.
Not gonna lie, I'm really liking these guys. I think they've got some goooood potential.
2525100 aww, verse is awesome. A series is super linear, but when you have a verse, it has lots of tangents and side stories. Blueblood's Ascension is a series, but Ponyville: The Next Generation (you're right, that is better than Fahr Drill) is pretty expansive for a series.

Hmm. You've got a point about series vs -verse.
It's like I've written the biggest rabbit trail ever. No two stories really have the same main character. It really is a (gulp) -verse.
I'm seriously considering TNG, though Discord would be against it on general principle. Can't have wannabees mooching on his turf like that Queue person.
2525124 Everycreature has a problem with Discord, If Queue wants to start something he'll need to get in line How about "The Pumkin & Pound Show," since we know those two were inspired by this.
Sounds good, I'll be reading it.
I'm not sure TNG is a good fit, because for the most part it's not any actual new characters, or descendants of the mane six or anything like that.
Fahrverse? Eh, can't say that I like that either.

*Leaping High-Five*
Eeeeeeeehhhhhhhh.... Nah. Though you've probably discovered what Equestria Girls will be like when P&P grow up, substituting rock for pony puns.

Hope you enjoy it!
It's a concept that needs refining, for certain.
I need to take some time to boil down what the series is really about. Find that singular thing that sets it apart the most. The Hearts of Promise Concatenation, or something like that, but that's almost blatantly ripping Estee off.
Arrangement. Skein. Morass. Those words probably fit better than "series."
You might not be alone in that.
