My Little Blog - Head Canon and Retcon

Hello everypony!

MaeceusMan here, and I have decided, if the fimfiction team can give us some shiny new graphs, charts, and metrics, then I can start writing a blog!

Trust me, there is a logic in that sentence.

Somehow I never imagined when I started posting stories that anypony would actually bother to read them. And yet, here I am, with nearly 4000 total chapter reads among all my works.

But that's not what I'm gonna write about here. This is not going to be my "I'm so awesome, you all should know I'm awesome too" blog. No, that's Discord's job, with Chaos is in the Eye of the Beholder. =)

Seriously, Discord does stuff, and I write it down. That's it.

Actually, on that note, the Chaos Blog has been a very interesting project so far, and one I will probably spend my fair share of blog post entries typing about.

At the moment I have one random one-off story, but that, again, was just me posting something a friend of mine who works in the Canterlot Archives wanted to share.

So yeah, I might type about future one-offs here and there, and why I wrote them.

But the main thing this blog is going to be for is my main story, Eldritch Designs.

That is my Kraken, or better yet, my Eldritch Abomination.

It fits in with my head canon perfectly, though it may require the occasional revision to continue to do so, especially when new episodes of the show reveal pieces of information which were previously unknown.

My favorite part of a working head canon, incidentally, is taking writing/animation errors from the show and actually allowing them to make sense. For example (spoiler for Eldritch follows):

Stained glass window that shows a future event? - Timeframes, a creation of Discord's that all show future events, and were made thousands of years ago. All Celestia's stained glass windows are former creations of Discord's, but only supposed to be displayed after the event happens.
Spike's egg color in the flashback doesn't match what he said it was? - Spike likes to mess with other ponies. Twilight references the real color of the egg as a coded way to confirm it's really her, since only somepony close to Spike would really know that.

It's like when Han Solo says he made the Kessel Run in under 12 parsecs in Star Wars, a feat which Luke found amazing. Most say this doesn't make sense, and they would be right, as a parsec is a unit of distance, not time. Wookiepedia says it was Hans way of telling Luke how great his navi-computer was, or that there is a space-time anomaly on that run which compresses space-time the closer to it you fly, but the maneuver is extremely dangerous.

Both reasons sound great, but my favorite is a far simpler one. Han sees a country boy and old man wanted passage on his ship off world. He needs cash fast. He tests them, to see if they know ANYTHING about space-time, or what a parsec is. They don't correct him, so therefore, he knows he can charge an exorbitant rate for the trip, and they won't even realize they just got conned. And that's exactly what he does.

How much more satisfying is that? That is my goal.

And to make it harder, it integrates in the classic Pony Fanfiction story, It's a Dangerous Business, Going Out Your Door, by Jetfire, into it's backstory. This was, in my opinion, one of the greatest pony fanfics ever made, but it has gone to the wayside by most, more recent writers, as it clashes with details in the show from since it was finished part way through season 2 of the show.

I aim to fix that, much like Han Solo did. By conning the locals.

Again, trust me, that made sense.
