Other Hub shows impacting the Brony fandom · 2:43pm Oct 4th, 2014
In preparation for my upcoming Rule 34 blog post, I'm reviewing the other showed which aired on the Hub to create a retrospective. I need some help. What I'm looking for are any instances where other shows on the Hub helped to shape the Brony fandom. Maybe they gave us a new meme to work with or a fun catchphrase which wasn't from My Little Pony, but we used it anyways.
To give one example, the phrase "Secret Butt Fun" from Pound Puppies.
Another example would be the Hub's misguided attempt by their PR department to encourage a brony-like movement for their new Care Bears show.
"What’s the Care Bears equivalent of a Brony? Belly-Bros? Care-Dudes?"
In what other ways has the Hub network and its other shows impacted My Little Pony and the Brony fandom as a whole? Thanks for any and all feedback!
From what I've seen, an ancillary fandom seemed to form around Littlest Pet Shop thanks to its pony-adjacent time slot. I never got into that show, so this is just observation from without.

Definitely. Littlest Pet Shop seems to have the most in common with My Little Pony.
Please tell me that's not an actual quote from that show.
Butt Buddies?
Yeah, LPS seemed to be the go-to... I mean, it even got a shout-out in the S4 finale, so...
2505866 it did?
2505866
What was the shout out?
2505809
Not from the show, but it was the idea of someone in Hub's PR department.
2505907 Lol, I don't know if that's worse or not.
There is literally an LPS episode called Mean Isn't Your Color. I get it's a regular phrase (sort of), but what the fuck writers. It can't get any more blatantly obvious LPS was supposed to be the second MLP.

And inexplicable references to Braveheart. What's the point of referencing an R-rated movie that's two decades old in a kids show?
2506051 That's actually pretty hardass, but yes, 95% of people who watched/liked Braveheart don't watch LPS. As for other decades-old references in kid's shows...
There is also one in the Hawaiian Vacation special where Doofenshmirtz remarks that the crabs get all "Kubricky" around his device and it jumps to the crabs literally just laying up against it like the apes to the monolith.
Well, they aren't shows, but there have been a few times the ads they run during airings have sparked a couple short-lived memes. There was the Magneto thing during the hiatus between seasons 1 and 2, and of course who can forget Gak?

It was when Discord put-putted away on the scooter, complete with the same helmet. It'd made a previous appearance a week or two prior in LPS.
2506073 Don't forget Gyro Bowl!
The Magneto thing didn't have anything to do with Hub. I believe it was the streaming service that Bronyville used for their 13 h marathon leading up to season two. The same X-men ad was displayed several times during the stream and this led to an improvised version of At the Gala by one of the hosts.
Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak Gak

Gak and Gyro bowl! Of course!

Definitely going to mention Discord's scooter! Thanks!

Well, the did that Lucy-parody in "The last roundup", even though most kids probably wouldn't get it, so maybe doing one on "Braveheart" isn't so surprising. I think it's mainly a fun tidbit they put in for the sake of any parents that might be watching it with their kids, or for any older viewers that still like the show.
Well, I'd say Littlest Pet Shop and Dan Vs gave us a lot of memes from the Twilight dog to the Dan Vs MLP tumblr that would go on to spawn Fluffle Puff.

Wow! awesome inclusions! The Twilight dog is definitely worth a mention!
(It's good to know you're still out there. I haven't had time to collaborate with you like I used to. Hopefully that will change soon and I can get back to writing stories again. In the meantime, I hope you continue to enjoy my blog posts.)
Well, this was a thing during the Transformers Prime 26-hour marathon.
Transformers, as well as Littlest Pet Shop, actually had a prominent appearance during the premiere of Twilight's Kingdom, in the Hub Hall of Heroes mini-series. And by miniseries, I mean it played in between commercial breaks.
Dang, that's actually depressing to watch in hindsight.
Did you see anyone from another show in that clip? SheZow got his own stained glass window.
Yeah, that show didn't really catch on. We've already mentioned the "Belly Bros" fiasco, which was very brief, since everybody could tell it was somebody at the Hub trying to trap lighting in a bottle. Even if the new Care Bears had become the center of some ongoing gag within our fandom, it would have benefitted the show more than just being completely forgotten about. SheZow felt like a smarter attempt at getting our attention, since the premise and running joke of the show was progressively parodying engendered super powers.
2507204 Well, glad to know I'm still appreciated.
I look forward to what you have coming up next. If it wasn't for you, I probably would've left this site a long time ago.

All excellent comments! I briefly discussed SheZow during my analysis of Cybersix, but I'll go into more detail during my next Rule 34 blog post.

D'ah, thanks! Nice to know I'm appreciated!
