Welcome to the DLI · 4:34am Oct 3rd, 2014
I started my first day of real classes at the Defense Language Institute today, and I think I can safely say I did a weeks worth of college in one day. I expect to be extremely busy in the coming days. Like the students who made the video a couple years at the same school I'm at now, I am here to learn Korean. It is a high intensity 64 week course.
On the bright side, I feel like I'm finally starting to do what I joined the Air Force to do. Up to this point, it's been a great deal of busywork boredom while I waited for my class date to roll around so that I could ship to Monterey and get started. The Presidio here is a nice base to be on, good views, beautiful area, good weather, minus the drought.
Believe me when I say nobody wants to see Shadows of the Crystal Empire update more than I do, but my brain is being kept on-call almost all the time here. For me, writing occurs when my mind wanders and I get the chance to lose myself in daydreams and visualize scenes, then I put those imaginings on paper. It's a lot of stewing, and a little bit of typing. Still, it's a good way to express myself, and I don't plan on giving up writing while I'm here, but it will be slow going. Between experiencing Monterey Bay, keeping my Military and Academic obligations, and my other hobbies, my time is a very precious resource to me.
Good to see that you feel like you are doing what you are supposed to do. So many get disillusioned when they find out that being in the service has a lot of what you did not know about and less of the stuff you thought about.
I can't wait to see/hear more about Pinkie but I can wait for you to get some more free time to let your mind ponder the possibilities.
Thanks for the check-in.
While we may be waiting, it's good to see you powering through your trials.
In the meantime, we're going to hunker down and enjoy what we've got.
Steady on.
