Yeah, if you've already got a story plotted out it would be mad to ruin it all to try and squeeze into the box of advancing continuity. Canon so far but no further.
That said, it's been funny how much of the trailers have confirmed stuff from your story, with the obvious and huge exception of human Twilight.

Oh, it's like I say, while you shouldn't throw cannon and continuity out the window, you should worry more about making your story work
I'm in an even worse boat! I had this entire fanfic about EQG that was a mix of W.I.T.C.H and Sailor moon that had an entire arc about Sunset getting tempted and seduced by Mozenwrath before the final battle!
This made me laugh enough that I felt the need to comment on how much I laughed.

though from what i see....... it could be canon for the most part. sunset from the previews pretty much feels like i suspect to happen. somewhat cynical but has completely embraced the strange little group that surrounded her.
I'm waiting to get it on Blu-Ray. It comes out EXACTLY on my birthday, and I've already locked it down as a present from family.

it definitelyt was a good movie. saw it myself and rather enjoyed it. especially sunset shimmer.
let us say she feels like a sunset that finally managed to open her heart without fear of others, more or less what it seems sunset is heading towards in your story.
will say that twilight as you depict, not here. still that is the beauty of a properly executed alternate universe. similar stories with small differences without having to have entire mountains move for it to occur.
Considering that your fic started long before Rainbow Rocks was a thing, it would be silly to complain about that. If that were that much of an issue, nobody should write an fics until FiM ended for good, because any future stuff could contradict a fanfic.
Then again, I never understood why some people are so anal about canon anyway. FF have a rather free relationship with canon anyway. Unless it goes completely apeshit, I find it silly to worry much about whether a fanfic is close to canon or not.
There's a good-quality leak up if you wanna see it, it's handcam but it's steady and with good sound and picture quality for a recorder.
I think (and I noted it on my blog post) that you'll love what they did with Sunset Shimmer in Rainbow Rocks (no spoilers, but what they did was good) You're going to enjoy it when you finally watch it.
Having seen the movie, I think your story can still work as an in between movies story.
I won't say much, having seen the movie, but there was one particular scene in Rainbow Rocks that was eerily similar to one of your chapters. Of course I won't say what it was, but I will say that it is reminiscent of Step 17: The Spectacular Seven and that is all I will say on the matter.

2485729 I've come to love Susnet a lot recently, even though I already thought she was pretty cool. Out of everything I've seen on the site, I like tsundere Sunset the most: caustic and distant, but if you care about her enough she'll move the Earth for you.
Haven't seen Rainbow Rocks, though, and I so want to!
