Update and revamp · 6:52pm Sep 23rd, 2014
'sup guys?
I've been thinking for some time now that I probably need to change the tags and possibly a few other things about the story. Second opinions showed that at least grammar needs to be looked over again, mostly in the case of punctuation (how I look forward to 200k words or so or rereading to spot mistakes... ). So, at the very least, I thought other aspects could be modified to better fit the story.
Now, when I first put up the tags and all that, some of my plans for the direction of the story were quite different. The Canterlot arc kind of took a life of its own to evolve beyond my initial planning, and in particular Blueblood took a much bigger importance. Consequently, I feel he is at least deserving of the tag, as his character arc is a big parallel to Sam in some ways. Maybe the same can be said for Celestia. I'm wondering if the Mane Six characters are even as important (outside fo Twilight)
Another big change would be the actual tags on the story. I hope I do not surprise anyone if I announce that Sam's story will not end with flowers and rainbows. The characters have evolved and moved toward a corner that makes it impossible for them to have a perfect happy ending. So, yeah, depending on your interpretation, it will be some degree of bittersweet. There's just no way outside of my authorial powers to untangle the mess (and that is not something I believe in, story-wise and theme-wise). Thus, I am considering adding a "Tragedy" tag.
Heck, this one is not actually something I really consider, but since we're talking about it... should I change the title?
So, to summarize for those of you that feel lazy, this is what I think might change:
-Blueblood + Celestia tag / minus Mane Six
-Tragedy tag
-New title
Now, this being said, the next chapter is somewhere around 70% written and I intend to get around to that very soon. So, my prediction is publising by the end of the week, depending on my proofreader. I apologize for the delays, but I've been busy and doing my best not to let any of my fics die, with relative success.
Anyway, I'd like to hear your opinions on those things, and I will try to have at least part of those changes decided by the time the next chapter is posted.
Have a nice day! ; )
I'm a little fond of the title; reminds me of simpler points in the story, before things got... Dark.
Tragedy Tag? Okay. I mean, if you want to; tragedy is typically relative, but I would leave it off unless you know for an absolute certainty that Sam is gonna get screwed over permanently, somehow. And I think you may already have that in mind.
As for character tags- Blueblood definately deserves a spot with the amount of attention you've given him; Celestia... eh... I guess so. It doesn't feel like the Main 6 have gotten enough screentime (except Twilight, cuz' love interest) to really warrant a tag.
Just my thoughts. Since you asked. One last thing before I go, if you 'do' put a Tragedy Tag on this, I may just need to find an appropriately tragic song to go with this. And I hate having to do that... (Always makes me sad about the inevitable bad end- why else would I hate having to do so?)
Have a great evening/day/(insert timeslot here)!
I find it unfortunate that you cannot find a way for Sam to overcome his darkness in a world that is usually quite cheerful. If you must, I understand. Though I do not believe that any character of person for that matter is irredeemable. The character tags I agree with and perhaps a more accurate title would be helpful.
An avid fan
2478937 I'd have to agree on the title. I've always been fond of its meanings and its simplicity. I just put the idea out there that it could change.
Yeah, character tags are most likely going to change. If only one thing do, it'll be that.
Well, the biggest thing I hate about the tragedy tags is that it gives away a level of information about how the plot will unfold. In this case though, the people I've talked about reacted anything from "yikes" to "could have been a lot worse" when looking at how it might end. Though, if you need a song, I'm extremely fond of this one:
2482120 It's not so much that I cannot find ways that it is Sam not being Sam if he were to follow them. In essence, that's would make it a tragedy. His flaws and his character do not allow him to make the choices that would help him the most.
