Crowdfunding III: Give Me Monopoly · 3:58pm Sep 19th, 2014

(I do this every year: it's just the first time I've done it here. I'm not expecting actual results. Just indulge me for a few paragraphs or move on to the next Notification light, to taste.)

The time of begging is upon me.

Every year, the Stateside McDonald's run their Monopoly peel-and-win game. And every year, I play as much as possible while trying to avoid the general source of the game pieces, also known as 'McDonald's food'. I typically ask my friends to give me any losing pieces they have or copy the code numbers off the food wins. I have never won a major prize: the most I've ever scored through peeling was a $5 WalMart gift card, with online plays bringing a slightly discounted spa visit on a non-Lotus & Aloe level. But I keep playing anyway. Because...

...one of the prizes is My Coke Rewards bonus points.

This year, you can peel a code worth 50 bonus points: there's four million of those available (although given the number of game pieces extant, the odds of finding them are still pretty bad.) You can also use the alphanumeric string at the bottom of any losing or food-win piece to play online and try for the same prize: only 250,000 of those, though. And so every year, I make a pre-Christmas push using as many bonus points as I can find, win, or have donated, then redeem for my own prize around the holiday. And every year, I ask those around me who don't play to donate pieces.

So... why not ask the same thing here? I can waste my time in a blog post as well as I do in a carefully-worded bulk Email...

This is my request: if you feel like it, when you go to McDonald's and get either a losing piece, a food win, or a My Coke Rewards instant win piece which you have no intention of using, please send me the piece's alphanumeric code via private message. I might be able to use them to slightly increase my MCR balance before Christmas. Said code is generally found on the bottom edge of the piece. In previous years, it's been eleven characters long.

Don't worry about sending me the codes from food wins: you can still redeem those pieces normally. However, do not send me codes from the following pieces, because possessing one means you've gotten an ultra-rare and you're going to need that code.

Baltic Avenue (#502)
Vermont Avenue (#504)
Virginia Avenue (#508)
Tennessee Avenue (#510)
Kentucky Avenue (#512)
Ventnor Avenue (#516)
Pennsylvania Avenue (#520)
Boardwalk (#522)
Short Line (#526)
Water Works (#527)

And here's a list of non-MCR, non-food wins for the season: the loot. That same page also says which products will have game pieces, and how many.

I'm not asking anyone to spend money on my behalf. Just that... if you're eating there anyway, or see a piece-bearing container on the sidewalk. have no intention of playing it... well, I can lose for everyone. And based on previous experience, generally do.

Piece distribution in the States runs September 30th through October 27th (although some places always jump the starting gun, run out early, or keep handing them out for weeks after the game ends). Online play runs through November 10th.

So: that's my request. Please help me see that You Lose! message up to a few hundred extra times this year. So you won't have to.

Or once. Once might help.

If I wind up getting one of the ultra rares, will it compensate me enough for the abdominal surgery I will eventually require if I make a habit of eating McDonalds food?

Possessing Boardwalk guarantees you an eventual payout of one million US dollars.

So to answer your question: almost.

I shall try to assist you in your monopoly game!
I never win those anyway.
