He's Popeye the Sailor Man (Toot Toot) · 3:02pm Sep 19th, 2014

OH MY GOD IT'S HAPPENING
Here's an article, in case you haven't heard the news.
Popeye is my absolute favorite old-school cartoon character, but he hasn't done anything legitimately new since the Robin Williams Popeye movie and/or arcade game, so seeing him back in action (hopefully) is very exciting to me. Let's hope it gets green-lit, eh?

I watched Popeye and Smurfs on Boomerang when I was a kid, they messed up the Smurfs, I hope they don't mess up Popeye, that was my favorite cartoon as a kid. It looks promising, and the preview has the same humor and slapstick used in the original. I can't wait to see what they do!

My only apprehension, honestly, is for the CGI. :unsuresweetie:

I don't like CGI in cartoons. I really don't. It's easy to train, lets you pump out a lot of material in a much shorter period of time, and all has that same generic cartoony look that I came to associate with Jimmy Neutron, and is probably my biggest reason for disliking that show. I can get past the CGI for plenty of things--namely Disney movies--but honestly, the "most beautful" CGI still has nothing on things done in traditional art style. I'm not saying hand-draw every single frame of everything, but CGI is the lazy animator's tool and is far too prevalent in today's animation.

I think it's because traditional animation is mostly what I grew up with. Most of Disney's big features are CGI, which I find immensely disappointing. :ajsleepy: They still come out with things that are traditionally animated, but all of them seem to be quietly forgotten. The last traditionally animated movie by Disney that I can find is Winnie the Pooh from 2011, and before that was The Princess and the Frog back in 2009. I'm certainly not liking this trend. :fluttercry:

EVERYONE says that, though! Honestly, though, it kinda depends. While it would be nice if it was done in hand-drawn animation, the thing about CG is that, like any style, it still takes time and effort, because you're basically working with digital claymation models and sets. Saying that all CG is lazily made is like saying that all electronic music is made by just hitting a spacebar. No disrespect to hand-drawn, because I love hand-drawn animation as well, but just because it's behind a screen doesn't mean that everyone makes it lazily.
