Cheerilee's Just On A Well-Deserved Vacation · 3:46pm Sep 15th, 2014
Just to keep the Cheerilee fans in the loop, no I haven't abandoned the story. I've just been working on a few other fics, one of which I'm close to finishing the first draft of. Cheerilee's Thousand is my story that I work on when I don't really have anything else happening, so it's just in a down cycle now due to FURIOUS WRITING ACTIVITY!
What I'm saying is that you can all stop panicking. I will be torturing Cheerilee again in the relatively near future.
With that out of the way, it's kind of bizarre to work on this story that I've almost completed. It's a story that's been banging around my head for a year or so, and I finally had the various pieces of it click together a couple of weeks ago. I've been having a good time writing it, but it leaves me wondering what kind of audience it will have, though I always wonder if anyone will be interested in my stuff while I'm writing it. I figured Awaken, Scootaloo would probably be a minor story for me, but after some pre-readers really connected with it, I was pretty hopeful. It went on to do amazingly well by my measure, but in the back of my mind, I always wonder if people are actually going to be interested in reading the new thing. It's been hit and miss for me, and that's probably the way it is for everyone.
The new story is about Big Mac as a bare-hoof boxer and the sequence of events that lead him there. It was originally supposed to be a comedy vaguely parodying Rocky with Big Mac as a big, strong, slow fighter with heart, and Granny Smith as his salty-yet-caring mentor/coach. It... didn't turn out quite like that. I guess it's a Sad fic, though like most of what I write, it's really just Slice-of-Life. I've gone back and forth over whether it counts as Sad or not, but I'll probably just wait until I hear from my pre-readers and editors as to whether it's emotionally there or not. I have a hard time telling.
I've got something like five other stories in the works besides that, but that's the one I've been focusing on, and I hope you will all enjoy it when it's finished. It's at something like nine thousand of likely twelve thousand words, so it shouldn't be too much longer.
In the meantime, Cheerilee has been catching up on her lesson planning and enjoying some quiet time at home. Don't worry, though. I have several ruinous dates halfway written and what I hope will be a fan-favorite guest chapter in the wings for chapter fifty.
Well the new school year has started so she doesn't really have time anymore, right?
AT LEAST I'M STILL TORTURING CELESTIA! HAHAHA!
2456989 No school year would stop Cheerilee's attempts at romance. She's just going to have to force a lot more perkiness each morning when Pinkie rings that school bell.
2457109 I'm seriously considering writing Celestia's Thousand, so we may be in the same torture boat soon. Mine won't have anything to do with the princess trying to get a date, though. It'll just be a thousand insane letters she's received from subjects over the course of her extremely long reign. Or rein. Rain?

Do it.
Fucking do it.
2457144 I think that would work in a letter+reply format. You'd need the ultra-subtle snark to really make it carry. 'Twould be great if you could make it stick, though.
2458164 I've been weighing the pros and cons of having Celestia respond. It would be funnier, but Celestia's not really snarky. She's light-hearted sometimes, but she's never as biting as she would probably need to be for answering those letters.
I was thinking about giving her a helper who is slowly descending into madness from the inanity of the whole thing, but it would have to be some sort of long line of helpers. Like a family whose job it was to officially answer these letters. A job that's passed from generation to generation. Also, that would remove the ability for me to just jump to any place and time in the Equestria timeline.
I dunno. I'm still tossing it around. It's not like I don't have ten other stories to work on...
