Have a review, or two... · 4:36pm Sep 14th, 2014
It's been a pretty crazy last couple weeks. Between work and family time, I've been very busy. Whatever extra time I had was devoted almost entirely to book three writing and revision.
In the middle of all that, I got a wonderful surprise—Sunlight Blaze decided to do a review of book one. I swear I had no idea this was coming, nor did I pay anything for the opportunity to have someone take such an in-depth look into my story. I almost feel like I should have treated them to dinner and a movie given the glowing comments.
It was pretty amazing to walk through that book following the perspective of someone reading it for the very first time. I'm watching the review going into book two and marvel at the way the story is playing out (the OOC-ness of the the CMC is causing the reviewer some stress—but I'm waiting to see how they feel about the payoff later on.) This kind of review is exactly what I was hoping for. An honest look at the story for good and bad that shows what they like and what they feel could have been done better. I know there are a few rough spots, but I hope the story overall is good enough to be able to look over those things. Maybe one of these days, I can gather up the willpower to go back and edit a few things again.
Getting back into book three, I'm trying really hard to focus on showing a good story with a cohesive plot as I try and develop the characters reacting to situations that provide a stimulating conflict. Bringing this three book arc to a close should come with a sense of wholeness—a satisfying conclusion to months of hard work in writing, editing, revising, and of course, reading. The only thing getting in my way right now is all the side story ideas that have spawned as I continue to write. I'm definitely keeping note and hope to get into a few offshoot stories once the main line is done.
Thanks for following me on this journey. I love to hear what you think and if anything in particular has sparked your interest or caused any concern—feel free to drop me a note or leave a comment.
