An enigma as vexing as life itself.

    Where I'm at now.

I couldn't tell you why I still have a FIMFiction tab open on my browser, and I can't even tell you the last time I clicked onto it. I think it's realistic that posting this is the last major activity I'll grant the site.

    Ten years today.

According to the info blurb beside my name, this is the ten-year anniversary of this account. And to think, this all started with me doing self-insert riffs on bad MLP fiction. And now I've got two finished stories under my belt, a crossover atrophying in a forgotten corner, and two other projects completely pony-unrelated I've finally put some words down for*. And also the last vestiges of my

    F/F/T3K19 THE SORTA FINAL

Last month's riff is complete. Enjoy.

This month, we're finally, finally finishing that riff of a riff we started god knows how long ago. We've spliced in a tiny Christmas story in there too.

F/F/T3K19 10/4: When the pasta is creepy.

Alright, we didn't exactly intend to slow down quite this much quite yet, but that's how we're gonna roll now. Here's last month's riff.

In two months, I may never leave my house again. · 8:32pm Sep 6th, 2014

The Binding of Isaac is hands down my favorite indie roguelike ever, if the 330 hours Steam says I've put into it is any indication (and even then, it doesn't log my time with SpiderMod). I have been waiting for more than a year for so much as a RELEASE DATE for Rebirth. Every item reveal, every map modification, was relentless teasing, making the uncertainty of the wait feel so much more infinite.

This trailer made me damn near crap myself for more reasons than one.

November 4, and only $10.04 to pre-order if you already own Isaac. This is ABSOLUTELY going to be the must-have indie game of fall 2014 if Five Nights at Freddy's was summer's. Or pick up the original for $5 (actually, $8, because you should be required by law to get the Wrath of the Lamb DLC too).

...I'm sorry, I don't usually make blogs like this, but this is literally the biggest thing for me right now.

never played it, but I hear its rage endearing

Noooo, that game makes me cry sweaty unmanly tears.

2432711 Oh, unbelievably. If you A. don't know what you're doing, B. take a ton of damage on a single room, or C. get a ton of items that really don't help you, skill will only help you so much. And yes, it takes as much skill as it does the luck of the draw.

I never buy things right when they're released. I own so many games I still have to play that I'd never be able to forgive myself if I didn't wait for the deep discount "is there anyone left who still doesn't own a copy of this?" sales.

2433275 As in practically the entire summer sale?

2433282

I also don't use Steam.

(Aside from knowing I'd get dangerously addicted to things like the achievements, I'm big on actually owning what I pay for and Steam doesn't give you a way to re-download the last DRM-free release of a game if the publisher decides to add DRM later.)

...hence why the vast majority of my 1150 or so digital download purchases are via GOG.com, Humble Bundle Inc., and other, smaller vendors like ShinyLoot and IndieGameStand which have similarly explicit policies about the distinction between DRM-free and non-DRM-free.

...however, if you meant the GOG.com and Humble Store summer sales, why do you think I own over 1150 digital download games when only three or four of them were bought at a price greater than $5? :P

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

After dieing on both satan and Isaac when they had a sliver of health left I gave up on this game.

2434260 First of all, those boss fights can be cheap, yeah, but they've also got predictable patterns, especially Satan. Once you reach his third stage, the main thing is staying out of the way of the secondary enemies he spawns. Isaac's a bit ACTUALLY cheap, though, with the tear retaliation thing. There's no shortage of Isaac let's plays you can watch to observe some strategies to combat them; my go-to's been Northernlion, who's played with varying degrees of success more than 900 times.

Second of all... it sounds like you're consistently able to reach Sheol AND the Cathedral. If you can beat Mom's Heart/It Lives enough times to even unlock them AND fight through them to reach the end bosses, then die AT the end bosses after putting up a hell of a fight, that's still really damn good. Having Cathedral access ALSO means you have the DLC, which pleases me.

Third, SpiderMod. Look it up; it's a comprehensive Isaac/WotL mod that basically lets you play god with your run. You can switch around rooms on the map, you can alter what items can appear in which rooms, you can start yourself off with the with the most overpowered loadout ever... I've only really used it to customize challenge runs (side note: NEVER combine IPECAC and My Reflection), but if you really think you don't have what it takes to beat Isaac or Satan (and you can ABSOLUTELY kill Satan on your own if you can whittle Isaac down to damn near nothing), you can just give yourself an unholy mass of damage upgrades and pile them onto Mom's Knife or Brimstone (but not AND; the two don't synergize at all). I can even PM you a download link and show you how to work it.

Fourth... the Cathedral's not even the end. You've still got the Chest and the ??? boss fight.

2434601 Don't get me wrong; I love the game and did look up strategies and whatnot. I just got tired of dying and then moved on to other things. That Spidermod is news to me though.

I actually still have it installed. Maybe I'll try it again.

2434801 IT'S TIME TO GO BACK TO THE BASEMENT

Yea this was THE game for me. It was the first one I ever 100% and I wear my platinum god badge with pride. I cannot wait for this game to come out.
