Tiny Background Kitten · 2:15pm Sep 6th, 2014
I’m experimenting with ideas about comicking. On the one hand I am using a kind of paper and ink where I could watercolor over it, and then scan the result. On the other hand I like b/w and crosshatching, and if I do that I can use a thing called CocoaPotrace and make the art vector art.
Vector art is more MLP-like. I think many of the curves on Mags there in vector are more appealing, but it does mean I can’t paint directly on the paper. But it also means readers on retina screens (or anybody anywhere) gets super-hi-res automatically as the whole thing is vectors (SVG, which FIMFiction itself uses for icons and things), which seems like a really neat side-effect. Heck, if I got a perfect little scene somewhere I could blow it up to the size of a convention backwall display, which is not the case for a painted bitmap this size.
This kitten is a bit under two inches tall, on paper.
As much as I'm an old fashioned kinda girl, the vector is noticeably sharper and cleaner looking. Unless you like a more raw feel to it, I think the vector is the better deal.
Your comic now has an Applejack!

Buh? She's not really that much like Applejack. Mags is a bit like a cross between Dash and Pinkie. I suspect she's able to break reality.
Not specifically the fourth wall. She's not aware she's being watched by readers (Kran may be). But she doesn't always feel she has to obey things like panel borders or gravity, which is very Pinkielike.
oh, pooh: 'background kitten'. Tsk!
