Dr. Wolf's awesome Simply Rarity Reading. · 4:14pm Sep 1st, 2014
Dr. Wolf was incredible and did a reading of Simply Rarity. I used to do this myself, but not nearly so well.
Check it out. I hope folks like it.
Also, shameless Broken Accords plug...
Hang tight, on my new channel, Autistic Pony I plan to do a video review of your story, if that's okay with you. Although it would be even more Awesome if I could get a quick PM interview from you about the story.
Anyway, keep up your great work
Thank you kindly for writing such a deeply touching story Somber.
Doctor Wolf is a great reader.
His reading made me cry...
2419833 You can, and sure. I'm horrible with answering questions though.
2419853 Thank you for an excellent reading. I was quite touched.
2419865 Me too.
It also let me critically say that the last 1/3 is a touch long and could be tightened up with the removal of an entry or two.

I say it was the perfect length. I like longer stories and you did an excellent job portraying Rarity's life struggle with the journal entries.
2419886 I wish I could write shorter stories. I see folks loving 1500 word stories and I'm like... HOW?!

Hahaha. You have a talent for drawing out complex stories if Project Horizons is any indication. I believe you should continue doing that instead of trying to be something you are not. I wish I could write complex narratives like you, Somber, but I am limited to shorter stories.
2419884 I'll come up with something simply to make for a good video, don't you worry, and just focus on your writing ;)

Any chance of getting a download link?

If one isn't forthcoming, you could give YTD a shot.

Maybe you could try a minific write-off from time to time, to force yourself to do that.
But one thing to bear in mind is you do regularly write short stories: memory orbs, dreams, memories—each one is in effect a story on its own, tied in with the larger narrative around it (and the two in PH chapter 53 are ~4600 and ~1700 words, so you can work in that range as long as you've scoped the story you wanted to tell for that). One of the things to remember is that every story doesn't need to be complete, with everything about everyone involved detailed within its confines. You can make it about something small, something discrete; think, say, "The Wrong Fork." (Incidentally, that would be another suggestion in favor of write-offs. You get some definition of your boundaries in terms of not only length but topic or theme from the start.)
That, in particular, is one of the benefits of using canon-heavy casts (since you were talking about OCs earlier today): you don't need to do much establishing of characters, and often little to none of setting. That offers some leeway, and I'd guess is another reason OC-centric stories are less popular. If you want something short, it'll be proportionally harder to find a good OC-based story, since you need an author good at writing very short stories (and I'll note that I find myself failing to finish 1000-2000 word stories proportionally more often than longer ones) who can also get you to care about an entirely new character in that time.
You used to do fanfic readings? I sure wouldn't mind hearing one.
