Freeport Venture Is Off to the Pre-Readers · 9:08am Aug 28th, 2014
Since this is a new story, I'll toss up the cover and synopsis for your consideration. Also, I'm in the market for a couple new pre-readers.
Synopsis:
Sunset Shimmer is on the run. It's been six months since she left her life as Princess Celestia's student behind, but she can't escape her own past. Her parents are offering a reward for her safe return to Canterlot, and Celestia's agents are watching her every step. She might have gotten out of Canterlot, but the runaway student is still a long way from freedom. Especially now that she's running out of money, and the net's tightening.
However, there might still be one place where she can escape all of them. The infamous island nation of Freeport has long had a reputation as a haven for pirates, criminals, and exiles, but there's no better place in the world for somepony who wants to disappear. The only question is whether she'll live long enough to pull it off.

My assumption was 'unrelated, but yes." There was vague mention of the Lunar Rebellion in the last Sunset story, so that's where I picked up my thoughts.

If you want credentials, I've worked as pre-reader for the last two chapters of This Platinum Crown, and I've been editor for the whole of Greene Fields under Red Lights, The Alternate life of Sparkler No-Last Name, The Incredibly Loyal Heart of a Winning Pony (the last two are in the Winningverse) and I was editor/proofreader for a good chunk of Cadence in A Minor until me and the author butted heads.

What does being a pre-reader entail? Looking for spelling and grammar mistakes? Or is there more? I would definitely be willing to pre-read for you.
I think you also might want to add this sentence at the end of the synopsis description:
they had a pirate arc in the comics.............
think i largely prefer the original idea for sunset shimmer personally. largely because one of the primary problems with movie is not putting enough emphasis on sunset shimmer's drive.
she is likely driven by a desire to be strong for Celestia, though that reason long forgotten, buried beneath her arrogance hunger for power. much of what we see in the movie seems to be sunset being spiteful and violently jealous of twilight, and maybe even a little hurt about being replaced. if they focused more on that it would have been a much better movie, but it is there.
a villain seeking redemption is not something we have seen in mlp. sure we have discord but he was not seeking redemption and probably will still be prone to mischief, though never again treachery.
