This time I want to explain WHY I'm disappearing for a bit... · 1:49am Aug 26th, 2014
This sucks, but recently my laptop just stopped working. Now, I might be able to get it fixed soon, but if I can't, then that means I've lost a lot of my work. This includes:
The new chapter of Inner Demons II I was writing
The chapter of Xenochronicle I hadn't posted up yet
All the remaining chapters up to 13 of Tales of Equestria
The next few chapters of Alive (fanfiction exclusive at the moment) I had finished
The next chapter of Metal Gear Sonata of Faith that was in mid production
The chapter of Lunar Engagement that I was working on
and the notes of various other stories I had planned on working on in the future.
Needless to say, I'm pissed. I'm not going to let this destroy me, but losing all of that hurt, especially since I was just getting back into the swing of things. I wanted to cry a bit when it happened, but instead, after my son helped me (he's a good source of positive energy) I was able to bring myself back in a good mood.
Sorry if everyone thought I was coming back. Honestly I thought I was coming back too, but then life happened. I'll see you all soon though, after I rebuild.
Sorry to hear all that.
I hope you can get it fixed or at least get the data moved from the HDs to another drive. As long as you don't reformat the drives, you might be able to get all the data out before it totally dies.
Out of curiosity, try to remove your Laptop's battery and plug in your power plug to it. If it does turn on, just copy paste everything you got into gdocs. It's free to anyone who has a gmail account so hopefully it's just a faulty battery. Using a laptop with battery plugged in at full while using the power cord can cause malfunctions.
Hope that somehow helps and save you some money. If that works, getting a Laptop Fan which latches to the bottom, and a pack of compressed air cans and a how to clean out your laptop on youtube could help.
Hope its not the HDs. Anyhow, try removing the battery like I said. Best of luck!
2402189 I appreciate it, but I never used the battery of my laptop. Oddly it's a new hard drive, so I don't know why it's acting silly.
2402572 it doesn't matter if you use it or not. It may say you're on plug power. It's a pain to explain, but just try it is all. Remove the back battery and try turning it on.
And yeah, HD's can die for any reason new or old. Some last a month *cough*seagate*cough* and others can last you several years. But one thing is certain, they always die.
Anyhow, hope you manage to get everything fixed. Take care of yourself!
*hugs*
Argh! That sucks, I know what it feels like to lose stuff because a computer decides to do the "fuck it, I'm done"-trick. Lost a lotta WIP drawings. Shit hurts, man ;_;
Oh well, lets still hope for the best, I should get back to reading too. At least I know I don't have a horrible hurry to do that now... except with those 10 other stories ah shit...
But yea, I do believe it's going to work out all fine (inb4 it's in flames).
Sapphire, technically the files aren't lost. Unless the hard drive failed with the computer they're still intact. In fact I could even get them back if I could get my hands on it. It's a pretty simple procedure if you know how to do it. Would you like it if I were to offer to get those files and whatever you wanted out of the hard drive back?
2402658 I wouldn't say Seagate's are bad hard drives. I've had mine for 6 years and it's never failed. It's the ones that are over 3TB that are the failure magnets, but only server grade hard drives with that capacity were really made for that kind of storage.
Did you lose all of your work?
2730931 Nope. I managed to get it all back. Thankfully.
