    Bronycon Part 3

I'm going again! I didn't think to ask the community for rides this time, so I'm going to take my first Greyhound bus trip over there and back. So this post is for people who'll be at the con already and want to do something with me. I had a lot of fun last time with Present Perfect (who can't make it this year), Stonershy, and all of the other big shots in the writing community (of which I am

A Story I Have to Spotlight

I don't normally read fanfiction outside of the realm of My Little Pony. For me, getting into fanfiction entails being familiar with the base setting and wanting something from it that the story just isn't providing on its own. For pony stories, this meant more content when I ran out of episodes, as well as a wider variety of story types than is present on the show, though by now I'm involved

    Doing More Things

I've done basically nothing to contribute to this site since I reposted my Immortal Game reviews here. I thought I'd fix that, without needlessly apologizing. You can't see the results just yet, but I just completed a revision/expansion of my writeoff-winning story, Final Resting Place. Once it gets edited or pre-read, I'll put it up and finally qualify as a horse writer again.

Solitair Reads The Immortal Game: Epilogue

Before I started writing this post, I decided to read all of the blog entries that AestheticB made on fimfiction.net, the site where I read his big story in the first place. In his most recent entry, he explained that the reason it took so long to write an epilogue is because he got conflicting expectations of what the epilogue should be and he didn’t know what to put down. In the end, he decided

Solitair Reads The Immortal Game: Introduction · 3:44pm Aug 23rd, 2014

Alright, the Project Horizons read-through is on hiatus. I think a palate-cleanser is needed after everything it’s put us through. So I’m switching to another epic fanfiction in which cartoon ponies suffer horribly and pick up mental scars like Halloween candy!

Wait.

Okay, my wires are still crossed in such a way that I inexplicably crave characters made for children in paradoxically mature situations. Well, someone’s idea of mature, anyway. Hopefully not a teenager’s. Next time around I’ll find something with a different fandom and tone, I promise. But a few of my close friends have banged on about The Immortal Game for some time now and I thought I might as well give them what they want. Maybe they’ll become regular readers if I do.

What do I know about this one? Well, it’s not based on the Fallout Equestria continuity, so it involves the actual characters from the show. This gives me much more opportunity to scrutinize the text for out of character behavior, though I gotta warn you that I’m not all that great at doing that. I tend to just go with the flow as long as it’s not a complete 180-degree turnaround or something like that, assuming that the rest of the story is taking up the slack.

The plot, as far as I know, is that the parents of Princess Celestia (I know she should technically be called a queen, I’ve learned to just go with it) and Luna were evil elder gods, and they’re back for revenge. Since other evil forces from ancient times have appeared on the show and were defeated in ways that can be shown on kids’ TV, I’m assuming that these villains have an ace up their sleeve to keep that from happening again. Oh, and I know that the fic’s title was not decided on when it was first released. It had to make do with the placeholder title of “Ponies Make War” until then, which would have made the fic less interesting if I’d considered reading it back then.

That’s basically it. I’m going in blind, as I should be, so let’s get this show on the road, already.
