...
I hate hearing about celebrity deaths. I mourn for a fair number of them, especially if I felt respect for them. That ranges from members of bands I enjoy to actors I adore. I openly wept for the death of Slipknot's bassist... for some reason. I was really attached to them four years ago.
Rorschach recalled a joke in Watchmen that went a little something like this: A man visits his doctor with severe depression. He says his life has been cruel, that he's trapped in an unwelcoming and unforgiving world. The doctor says it's easy enough to treat; Pagliacci, a revered clown, is in town, and the patient should see him. A good laugh is surely what the patient needs. The man, however, bursts into tears. "But doctor... I am Pagliacci."
Robin Williams died of asphyxiation today, possibly a suicide. That's a huge kick to the balls.
Williams was one of the goofiest and possibly one of the funniest actor-comedians in the business. I adored his stand-up comedy, his Whose Line Is It Anyway guest appearance was hysterical, and I enjoyed quite a few of his movies, including Aladdin, Jumanji, and especially Dead Poets Society.
As someone who fancies himself a comedian, this is a heavy blow. Williams was an inspiration to me, and I'm going to miss him. I've started coordinating a marathon of the works he's been involved with, so that I and the friends I'm collaborating with can give him a fond sendoff.
Rest in peace, Robin. Your mark on film and comedy won't be forgotten.
I REALLY need to start paying more attention to the news
2363141 Same here.
Send me a link to the marathon, man.
I'd just watched a mini-marathon last week. Jumanji, Good Morning Vietnam, Mrs. Doubtfire, Aladdin...
2363228 It's not something being streamed or broadcast. It's just my friends and I getting together IRL to watch his stuff.
2363239 Aww, okay. Have fun.
