Weekly Update - Kicking Names and Taking Tail. · 7:19pm Aug 9th, 2014

As an early treat for all of you, I've just put out Office Love part 5 and I'm around a quarter of the way through Man's Best Friend Part 3. There is a very, very distinct possibility that this -could- be the finale. If not, I'm very, very close.

Since I don't have a whole ton else to talk about in this blog, I'm going to make a topic! Yay! So, if you aren't interested in hearing me ramble about writing, you can pretty much stop here.

I promise, there is nothing past here about story updates.

I really mean it.

Still here? Okay.

So. One of the big things that I need to have when I write is something I've nicknamed 'the focus'. The focus for me is a sort of trance where I block out all distractions and just write. When I come out, it usually has to be some sort of major distraction or that the story is done. To eliminate outside distractions when I write, I usually just wear noise cancelling headphones and listen to music. Usually something cool and calm and in the tone of the story I want to write. When I write Man's Best Friend, it's usually extremely sad piano pieces in a minor key. Lately I've had a problem with keeping the focus for a long period of time, and once I lose my focus, everything I do is pretty much trash.

So, I downloaded a new program to help with the focus. It's called "Ohmwriter". Using that program, combined with my noise cancelling headphones I've been able to keep the focus for a longer period of time and get more writing done. The only problem being that when I look up, I've normally lost hours of time. The program cancels all outside sounds and notifications and doesn't have a timer. I've found that I'm happier with what I make, but it's at the cost of time. Which is something I'm in short supply of.

In other news, If you sat here and listened to my rant, I'll let you in on a spoiler.

I lied.

I actually do have something writing related down here. I've been doing some non-fan fiction writing lately on Wattpad. I'm sure that any writer on here either has had trouble showing their writing off to someone else or going up to another person and saying "Hey, I'm a writer!" Then never showing non-pony lovers any of your writing. My non-poni writing has been in an effort to show off my writing to people who aren't into ponies and see if other people like that stuff as much as people like -this- stuff. One of these days I'll probably post the link to my other stuff here, but I just thought I would throw that out there. It's one little thing that's distracting my attention from here. Once I get done with my non-poni story, I should hopefully have more consistent updates here.

Till next week guys!

I'd say definitely, but it was slightly different back then. I'd like to say that now I have to slow myself down and ensure I get every detail that I can think of down on the story, where before I was more concerned with getting the plot out fast. Which created pacing issues. I've changed a lot as a writer, and I hope its mostly for the better. :twilightblush:
