My Everything Has Been Augmented... · 11:07pm Jul 26th, 2014
Hey folks, little update!
Chapter 16 is well on its way, only in need of editing in fact! But I wanted to share the fact that my computer has just been put through a serious upgrade!
Now, this has very little impact on writing, but it will have every impact on future 3D work I'm planning.
I kept most of the components I previously used, like my GTX 570 graphics card (so games are only so much better performed than before) my 750 watt power supply, my case, and my old hard drive. Oh, and my case of course. No reason to nix it, so it stays.
Everything else is up to date, however. From an i7 870 to an i7 4970K. The performance difference, even in simple tasks, surprised even me. But one of the greatest improvements was a leap from 8 to 16 gigabytes of RAM. This will aid fluid dynamic simulations immensely, since they require ridiculous amounts of RAM. Doesn't hurt multitasking any either. That extra headroom is quite the breath of air.
But my new 250GB Samsung EVO Solid State Drive running Windows 7 Professional takes the cake. I still have my old hard drive for larger storage, but anything on the SSD operates so fast it makes my head spin. My computer can literally boot to the desktop, ready to roll in about 5 seconds of my pressing the button.
The build was a bit arduous, but past PC building experience served me really well. I finished by 10pm that night what I expected to have accomplished by 3 in the morning, and so far everything is perfectly stable, with maybe some questionable (though not at all dangerous) temperatures registering from the CPU.
Lots to install, but it's the beginning to a bright future for upcoming projects =)
Nice.... Congrats dude!
I'm working with a, AMD Radeon 7800, 16GB Ram, 500 watt power
Not sure how your card stacks with mine but that looks beefy.
