Hey all,
I remain not dead, though summer's proving to be as much trouble as usual. Why is it that I actually have less free time when I'm "on vacation" than I do when I'm in school? I find this concept difficult to grasp.
In any case, I wanted to let you all know that I've got a new story I'll be publishing soon—meaning sometime in the next few days, after I've had a chance to do a bit of editing and maybe get someone else's eyes on it, though I don't quite know who's going to be interested in pre-reading this thing. It's for the July 2014 EQD Pre-Reader Secret Santa event thing, where we basically all wrote a bunch of prompts and traded them around. Submissions are due this weekend, and I just finished my first draft this afternoon. I don't have enough time to give it a huge amount of content editing, unfortunately—that's a bit of a disappointment, but c'est la vie. I'm hoping you'll all enjoy it anyway.
So what is this new story, anyway? Well, it's a big step outside of what I've written up to now. It's about 3500 words, and I'll be tagging it for [Sad], [Tragedy], and possibly [Dark]. It's OC-focused, though Roseluck also plays a significant role. And unless I get any title brainwaves, I suspect it's going to be called "The Rose", which is a pretty appropriate title, all things considered.
Here's hoping you all enjoy it. At least inasmuch as it's a thing to be enjoyed.
I consider myself quite familiar with this effect. I don't have a name for it, but I always find that when I'm required to do some kind of work, I'm more likely to find time to do my less exciting leisure activities, and will end up doing them as a form of procrastination. If I'm free to do absolutely anything, on the other hand, I'll typically end up doing less "productive" things.
Anyway, good to hear you're Not Dead™, and that you're doing some interesting stuff, though it seems quite out of season for a "Secret Santa" event. If you need some prereaders, I'd be up for looking over something.
I'm looking forward to it. It'll be interesting to see how you put together a dark fic.
Also, I don't know how useful I'll be -- but if you throw the link my way, I'll happily give it a readthrough.
Well, I'd be happy to help with the prereading... except I'll be camping from tomorrow until Monday and after that I have a self imposed deadline for something else (not related to this site). So, yeah, that's a thing.

Oh, I've been unthinkingly taking you off the table with this one because you were averse on Purple Prose, but maybe that was dumb of me.

But if time doesn't permit, don't worry about it. I need to have this up by Monday, and I've got a really ugly weekend schedule of my own, so I may have to kick this out by tomorrow just to make sure it goes up. Not an ideal situation, by any means, but them's the breaks.

I often find myself a bit depressed after reading sad fics, but if it's written by you I think it's worth it.
Maybe. I dunno. I'll just need to be sure I have a box of tissues nearby or something.
My stance on those tags is well known, nay, infamous, granted. But if it s OCs and background ponies only, that's a bit easier to swallow. So if the level of bleak horror is somewhere south of Twenty Minutes and won't give me recurring nightmares, I'll brave the story for you. And, hey, you'll hardly find a more nitpicky or sharp pre-reader than me when it comes to sadfic. This may or may not be what you are after, though.

Yay, new story! I'm with Ghost, I've got low tolerance for Dark, but I'll certainly give it a shot!
