My Trixie's head canons (Wabe's Wild Guessing) · 6:34am Jul 22nd, 2014

Another Trixie post (because she's best pony). This time is to explore what kind of characters, backgrounds and situations fits for building a credible backstory with our favorite showmare.

1.- Trixie is a Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass
During the Ursa attack Trixie had this situation; That's one big mean mother hubbard that just stepped in my house as it was nothing AND looks angry. Trixie could...
a)Flight

OR
b)Fight

Do you remember which one she took?

2.- Trixie is part of the Equestrian equivalent to Romani
This one isn't a very big leap of logic. The show gives us a good trade of the typical stereotypes associated with romani; lives in a caravan, con artist, hot tempered, colorful clothing, etc. (and the censors think that Derpy is offensive)
But on a lighter interpretation I would like to think that the romani from Equestria are like the ones from the book Cien Años de Soledad (One Hundred Years of Solitude) by García Márquez, nomads that trade culture, knowledge and inventions from town to town. This is mostly because I know near to nothing about real life romani but Cien Años... is easily one of my favorites reads, also Macondo has some common features with Ponyville.

2.1.- Following the previous one, Trixie is the adoptive daughter of Princess Luna/Nightmare Moon
Because of this song:

But for this canon to work it has to be Nightmare Moon instead of Luna since it would be previous to the events from the show.
Nightmare Moon, devastated by loneliness, made the same pact from the song with Trixie's mother in order to have a daughter to make her company. But since Trixie's features doesn't fit with any of her parents... Just look at the video.

3.- Trixie is a rather good singer.
In a lot of fics and somewhat in canon, a strong part of Trixie's shows are the stories she tells. This puts her in the same level with medieval minstrels. I'm thinking about something like this:

***

4.- Trixie is a fellow writer.
Again, stories seems like something important in Trixie's shows. But where do they come from? Keeping it with the traveling showpony image, the logical explanation is that she makes up her own stories. But, just like Edgar A. Poe, she antagonized just the wrong list of ponies so her stories doesn't stand too much in the paper, making it more an addition to her show than anything else.

5.- Trixie is the circus equivalent to Batman
This is another fine piece of 'Wave Blaster is rambling again'.
Raised inside the magic of the tent, when the little azure unicorn earned her cutiemark in magic Trixie decided to make it about the magic of performing. So she trained herself in everything that could be done in a circus performance, that being:
Acrobatics, jugglery, magic and illusion, escapism, knife trowing, acting, trick shooting, wild animals taming, general stunts.

So, that's what I got without re-reading the stuff on my favorites folder or borrowing things from TVtropes. These aren't exclusives between themselves and could be part of the Trixie I'm pulling out in Mare-Do-Well Strikes! What do you think? Leave a coment and let me know.

What do you think? Do you have you own head canon? Leave a comment and let me know.

The only interpretation which i wuldn't agree that much , would be the 2.1
Trixie being daugter of Luna , this would make her daugter of an alicorn , so to me it would be like giving birth to Broly in DBZ , she'd get a high magic potential and would be very dangerous since her birth .
I like more to imagine that Trixie is training very hard to be good for her show , that she can call herself the great and powerful , because of how much she worked by herself , and because of what she's been through.
to be a perfect singer , to create good stories to tell and share in every towns she visits
then of course , if she worked hard, i can only guess that any circus performance shouldn't have any secrets for her.

now if i had to choose one i'd take the first guess , a hidden badass , why ?
well :

I wasn't saying literally daughter, but instead that her mother offered Trixie in exchange of a magically arranged marriage. In the same vein of 'Hijo de la Luna' both of her parents were earth ponies, but Trixie being a unicorn made her father suspected an infidelity and... well, the rest of the song is very sad but it ends with an orphan Trixie being watched from the distance (like a guardian angel) by Nightmare Moon.

And to expand that last line:

2306057 sad video indeed :applejackunsure:
and when you think about it , we got a nice contrast between Trixie and Twilight , with one being Watch by the sun goddess who act a bit like a mother sometimes and the other being watch from the shadows , by the moon .

i think we made enough Bane jokes so to change here's a cute Trixie :

2306086
And the contrast become bigger when you put on the table the following things:
a) Twilight parents are still present, also her brother, Cadance and Spike. Trixie, on the other hand, was an only child.
b) Celestia personally taught Twilight everything she knows. Nightmare was trapped in the moon and could only intervene from the astral plane.
c) Celestia is a big good for the series as a whole. Nightmare was the very first big bad.
What is the moon but a giant mirror?

And I think that image is giving me diabetes or a heart attack. I'll tell you when I can feel my left arm again.

Yeah, the Trixie from Mare-Do-Well: Regeneration has to be the lost daughter of Bruce Willis.

You know, now we're talking about a writer/fighter Trixie I can't help to think about an Oscar Wilde anecdote.

The Marquess of Queensbury made the similar mistake of thinking that because Wilde was effeminate, he was also lily-livered but after barging into Wilde's home and calling him a "bugger", he discovered in no uncertain terms that messing with an Irish gentleman is a bad idea. As Oscar said before physically throwing Queensbury and his bodyguard out of the house: "I've no idea what the Queensbury rules are but the Oscar Wilde rule is to shoot on sight."

Now think about that scene with Rainbow/Rarity/Applejack as the Marquess and Trixie as Wilde and is one Crowning Moment of Funny/AWESOME!

And about that image I can only say:

She looks good in white.

Wouldn't the circus I equivalent of Batman be (Dick Grayson) Robin?:trixieshiftright:

(Reading Actually, I'm dead and saw the link here, so...)

3186336
Yeah, and since he has been Batman a couple of times... yeah, actually.

And thanks for reading Actually, I'm Dead, glad it caught your attention and I hope you like it. Don't be shy with your opinion and feel completely free and encouraged to share your thoughts on the comments section once you have it read.

Grayson is Best Batman.
(And Damien is Best Robin).

Anyway...
I'm actually going to post a review of it for the goodfic bin on the forum and my blog this week, so I'll link you to it if you're interested.

3189288
Uhh, I'm more of a Tim Drake is best Robin kind of guy, but I admit that under the right writers (Morrison and Peter Tomasi), Damian is a pretty likable character. In regards to the big B, I wish that the Azrael version was-- Hold on!

You're going to make Actually, I'm Dead's first review?!

And for the GoodFic Bin?!!!

3189637

Well, you submitted it.:derpytongue2: I've been meaning to read it for a while, so since it was there I figured I'd kill two birds with one stone.

(And a crowbar:pinkiecrazy:)

As for the Batman talk... Want to take it to PMs, rather than spamming your comments?
(I don't mind either way, just thought I'd ask before talking about Robin)

3189643
Nah, don't worry about the comments section, it usually dies before the first day, so there's no prob for me talking here.

3189801

In that case:
I didn't read much Batman when Tim was Robin- not out of dislike for the character, but because I was more into Marvel at the time. I always liked Dick -and his arc of becoming his own man as Nightwing- and I like what Jason represents.

But I can't quite connect to Tim in the same way. I prefer Tim as his own hero; I love it when Robins grow up and mature.

But Damien...needs to be Robin more, I think. I love the fact that Morrison took the "Robin is Batman's son" subtext and made it maintext. And I think Damien has a more interesting perspective as Robin. Tim always strikes me as a young (less grim) Bruce in terms of his personality and skills; I can see Tim becoming a hero with or without Batman's interference.

I can't quite say the say for Damien, which makes him a little more I teresting to me...and his arc through the Morrison stuff was great. I haven't read the Tomasi stuff yet though.

3189837
Oh man, you will love Tomasi's run on Batman and Robin, since the guy wrote it out of his own perspective as a father, the characterizations are *kiss* beautiful!

Abut Tim vs Damian, yeah I see your point. Both are wildly different character with motivations that couldn't be more different. Damian needs to be Robin in order to become a better person while Tim is needed to be Robin because he's a good person. I think it all goes into flawed vs admirable characters and that elusive middle ground, so preferring one over another is all on personal taste.

Personally, I like Tim because he's all about being the good-cop for Batman's bad-cop, revitalizing that "Robin is the light for Batman's shadows" concept that Kane and Finger intended with Dick when creating the first Robin. In fact, his very first story arc was literally a story long explanation of why Batman needs a Robin.

P.S.: Everything Morrison does is EPIC!

3189870

Emphasis on Finger. The more I read about Bon Kane, the more I want to punch him.

But... I actually haven't been reading Batman for a while, because of Morrison. Inc was so different in tone that Snyder kind of felt like something of a step back.

I have been reading Grayson though. Dick has always been one of my favourite characters, so pairing him with the cool Spyral concept Morrison made? That's great.
I admit, I wasn't expecting much -I thought it was a Winter Soldier cash in- but I've been enjoying it. Like I said- Dickbats is best Bats.

3189875
sorry the late response, high octane drama got me distracted.

Yeah, about Kane and Finger, it's is curious but their relationship of Kane bringing up neat concepts but a terrible execution while Finger managing to actually make said concepts work is more or less how the creative process of Actually, I'm Dead works. I bring up the concepts and first draft and then, nightwalekr turns a pile of storming madness into a story that readers can read and like. In order to not emulate Kane, I can only state how I owe him a solid half of the credit for Actually, I'm Dead's success.

I have yet to read Grayson. In fact, recently I've read only Multiversity and Convergence, so I'm not really up to date with comics. I should.

3190584

No problem.

Yeah, as long as you provide credit -and don't screw nightwalker out of credit with a contract attempting to obliterate his role from history- I figure you should be fine. Incidently, I'll be sure to credit both of you in the review.

Multiversity was pretty cool. I really need to catch up on Convergence though. I'm a big fan of Earth-2, in spite of recent events, so I really need to read that chapter of the story.

3190597
Yeah, about that, if there's a doubt on who is to praise or blame for something, don't doubt on asking me for I'll gladly clarify about it.

And Convergence is stupidly AWESOME! or AWESOME!ly stupid. It makes no sense, the central plot goes literally nowhere and most of it has no real impact on the rest of the DCU. However, every single tie-in is a two issues long Crowning moment of AWESOME! for every character involved. Arsenal is AWESOME! Blue Beetle is AWESOME! Nightwing is freaggin' AWESOME! It's like the comic equivalent of Pacific Rim.

Did I mention that it's AWESOME! well, it also has the Warlord, long lost character from the old DCU, and it's AWESOME!
