I'm not dead. Just re-evaluating. · 9:06pm Jul 17th, 2014
Right then, I hope I don't upset too many people by posting this but it needs to be posted.
I'm giving up on epics.
That is, stories that span many chapters and whatnot. I just don't have the attention span, the time or the ability to sit down and focus all of my thoughts into something like that. So sadly, the Scourge War series I had planned will have to go away. I won't remove the stories, but I won't be updating them either.
The problem stims from the way such stories work. A lot of time goes into properly building up a lot of things. Rather than short stories which can rely on a very loose setting so long as you leave enough for imagination to bridge in the gaps, an Epic relies on a lot of building and shapping to get all the things right. Pacing is a lot harder to do as well with properly using highs and lows and frankly, I just don't know how to do it. I read stories by those like RealityCheck and I have a hard time understanding how they do it, putting together something large and wonderful like that.
However, that doesn't mean the story ideas I do have will be going to waste. I had a lot of different things I wanted to show through the Mane 6. Rarity showing her Battle Princess side was one of those things inspired by a 30 minute prompt. Lets face it, the few times we seen Rarity willing to put aside the state of her hair for a moment and get down to brawling was some of the best moments with her. However, I feel that these ideas are best reserved for zeroing in with very direct one-shots. Maybe I'll find a very loose way of tieing it all together.
Just to keep you from clicking the unfollow button and thinking that it's no longer worth sticking with me, let me give you a few teasers.
We've seen Fluttershy mend up animals a few times. But haven't you wondered how she learned to do those things? I believe the best way for her to learn would be under the guidance of a outlandish doctor with a heart of gold. A hint for the astute, his father named him after reading the book “Last of the Marehicans”.
A lot of folks like to paint Magic in MLP like a 'make whatever you want to happen' power. But that would denote that it is an ability with a will of it's own able to understand the thoughts of the user and that just didn't fly with me. My own vision is a lot rougher on those who do have magic at their control.
Remember how close Rainbow Dash and Lightning Dust were in my Turbulence story? Wanna know how they became like that? I'll let you know in time. And, hey, as much as he was a jerk, I think she deserves a little more screen time.
Speaking of Jerks, the Queen of them who dared made the precious Fluttershy cry, She-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named (Gilda) should get a chance to return as well. Redemption story? Just adding a layer of Jerk to her? I'll figure something out.
Applejack slice of life story. Bet you can I make farm work interesting.
Hey, I bet I could make Rainbow Dash's day interesting as well.
Aw to hell with it, SLICE OF LIFE STORIES FOR EVERYPONY!
Twilight has a Castle now. Why not have a story about her life when she suddenly has staff and servants bustling around. I have a good idea for an interesting ending as well.
Hmm.. what does a Discord do on his free time? There's a thought.
That.. That turned out to be more than a few.. And I barely scratched the surface of what I got stuck in my brain. Perhaps it would be best to stop writing this blog post and start writing the stories?
