    Neko's Tips on writing.

When I first wanted to write I was a bad as you can image, maybe worse. To everyone I forced to read my work the pain they suffered was evident in their critique reviews. Though the concept (The broad idea of the plot{Plot: Idea you wish to converse}) was in enormous and interesting, the way I told you was anything but. It was a simple list of facts, nothing more and nothing less. It was boring.

Saying my shirt is red, or saying "Alone in these forgotten halls where emotions no longer rest, I die. These walls, my custom grave, the sight dulls to grey. My gaze drifts down to my attire, the sunlight has been illuminating the red dye in my shirt. It looks more alive then me, then again I am dead". Okay okay I get it: its long, preachy, and has fancy words. How about this then, "The walk down to the bottom floor is always a pain, I'm getting weird looks again. I pull out my dull red shirt and inspect it. Indeed my dog had chewed a whole exposing my bellybutton, when will I stop wearing the clothes I find on the floor?" I'm confusing you aren't I?

Here's the point: Paint with words. After every sentence I type out I look at it with the same scrutiny I would a Picasso, in other words "what does this make me feel". There is a deference between telling me something, showing me something, and letting me experiences for myself. Telling me your how your character feels by saying it or telling me what their wearing in a single sentence is 'BorrrrrrrrING!' I need to see it for myself through your words. Actions dictate mood and personality, there is history and meaning behind everything, finding a way to spice up a normal persons appearance is what you should strive for.

Examples: Rainbowdash has wild un-kept hair, to me this could say she isn't interesting in every detail or she might not waste time on it when its just going to get messy while she fly's. The reason Applejack's hair is done in a brad could be so she doesn't have to deal with it, or because its a family tradition, or come up with something. Just telling me its in a brad is just a fact I already know, telling me its in a brad and why is at lest a little better, and showing me her brad is a trick you need imagination for. So when I say, "paint with words" I really mean, tell me something I don't know.
