As she headed up the stairs, Sunset didn’t even bother to walk to Twilight’s room to check on her foster sister; after all, for the past few weeks, it hadn’t really been used. Instead, Sunset went to the bathroom, took care of her personal needs, brushed her teeth and washed her face, then looked at the new mirror – she really preferred the older one, but it was out of stock at Home Depot – and glanced at the plastered over scratches on the wall that would need to be painted over.

With that, then she went into her room, which already had a light on and a familiar form within the sheets.

“Twily…for the umpteenth time, please try sleeping in your own bed. Not that I mind you being here, but…this isn’t healthy,” Sunset said, sitting down next to her foster sister in what she already knew was a futile effort. It hadn’t worked the first time, or the second, or the third. Finally, when she put her foot down, Twilight just slept outside her door, hoping that being just around Sunset would be enough to keep the monsters in her mind at bay.

But for now, she sat there on the bed, looking haggard, as if she was almost as old as Sunset actually was. Her eyes were puffy and rimmed with dark bags underneath them, and her hair looked shaggy and unkempt. If anything, a casual viewer would have thought that it was Sunset that had lived a life here in the house on Golden Oaks and Twilight a refugee from the long-demolished warehouse. She finally turned to look at Sunset, with wild, fearful eyes, her normally beautiful violet orbs mere dots of fear. “Can I—”

“Sis, just…look, I have a test tomorrow, and I need my sleep,” the flame-haired girl began, knowing it was a lost cause the moment she opened her mouth. “Nobody’s goi—”

“NO!” Twilight yelped. “You don’t understand! Every night – every Goddamn night – it’s looking at me! If I close my eyes, it’s going to kill me! I know it!”

“Twily, I—”

“Please!” Twilight looked at Sunset, utter fear in her eyes. What the hell was going on that was utterly destroying her…and why the hell weren’t their parents worried about it? Likewise, talking to Cadance and Shining hadn’t been much help either; both of them were so focused on other things going on in their lives – Cadance had a large case she was working on for the DA’s office, while the case that Shining was assisting the Red Bluff PD with had just gotten bigger, so he was completely absorbed by that. Even Octavia, who’d been incredibly stressed out, wasn’t over much, preferring to spend as much time with her parents before they moved overseas.

More and more, Sunset felt she was the only one dealing with Twilight’s currently shattering mind…and she was well in over her head.

So, when is Sunset going to tell Twilight that what she's seeing is an alternate universe that Sunset came from? Or will we have to wait for Raspberry Beryl to come through the mirror to warn her about Sombra?

What makes you think Twily would believe Sunset? After all, she's stated she doesn't believe in magic, and while she wouldn't think Sunset is lying, per se, she would believe that her foster sister is playing a joke on her. Anything further might actually put Sunset at risk, and by extension her family (think the plot of ET, which Sunset has seen) and Sunset would not risk her family like that.

As for how Razz figures into this? Who knows? (Well, Blue and I do, but.... :trollestia:)

The statue portal transforms whoever goes through it, but the mirror gate doesn't. I wonder if Sunset would risk going through so that she could get aid from Equestria. Though if it leads to that mirror equestria from the IDW comics and the black unicorn was the mirrorverse sombra, that would be interesting.

The EqG mirror is still locked up, since it's only open for the three days every 2.5 years, and it's been only slightly over half a year at this point.

Plus, keeping this as close to Show canon as possible, Sombra's pretty dead and...well, to say anything about Raspberry would be spoilery:trollestia:

Why do I feel this will be a big deal for Sunset's relationship with her family? Intellectually, I'm sure that most of them will understand why she didn't reveal her true capabilities, but emotionally?

They might not be so forgiving if they think she always could have helped but chose not to, no matter how good the reasons.

Who said anything about Sunset being immediately open about her secrets?

2256927 that's the point.

When Sunset eventually reveals her true self and capabilities, her family will probably be re-evaluating everything that happened with and around her.

So you're saying that they'd cut her off? Do you really think that Twily and family are that cruel? :raritycry::raritydespair::raritycry::raritydespair::raritycry::raritydespair:

Oh Hell No.

I'm thinking more along the lines of what Octavia did when Sunset defended Vinyl.

Why?

Even without knowing her origins, Velvet was told day 1 by her best friend (who did know the full extent of Sunset's misdeeds) that taking in Sunset was going to be an open invitation to all kinds of trouble for the family. Velvet didn't give a shit.

Then, later, Sunset poured out the laundry list of terrible things she'd done to pretty much anybody who had crossed her path to Twily, who said she didn't care about Sunset's past because that wasn't the Sunset who was now her foster sister.

Plus, even with full disclosure, has Sunset even done anything bad with her magic ever since becoming a foster child? After all, if she hadn't secretly been a unicorn with magic powers, she couldn't have stopped The Club, much less give Minnie some healing so she wouldn't have to live with the scars left from her attempted suicide. If anything, revealing how her magic powers factor into her recent actions, all that changes is the means of how Sunset performed those actions, and in one or two cases that her involvement was significantly more important than she had let on.

2253097 You say Sombra's pretty dead.... :trollestia:
